sessions in Dingle in August

sessions in Dingle in August

Is the Dingle peninsula a good place to be in August if you're looking for good sessions?
I'm going to be in Cork/Kerry this August for almost 6 weeks (playing music, as well as painting at an artist's residency at Cill Rialaig on Bolus Head) people have mentioned Dingle as one of the session meccas in the area---can anyone advise me as to whether this is really so? Or is it too touristy a place to be in August?
I've never been to the south of Ireland so I have no idea what i am getting into ...except that it all sounds lovely (and expensive!)

I'm excited about going.....I'll be in Ireland for 6 weeks, 4 of which will be at Bolus Head where the Cill Rilaig Artist's Residency is located. (There are 7 pre-famine stone cottages, each of which was renovated to become artist's accomodation and studio space...situated on cliffs overlooking the ocean.) I plan to paint during the day and play music at night (I play fiddle, mandolin & concertina). I've heard there is a session at the Bonnan Bui in Caherciveen on thursday nights, and someone mentioned Portmagee was a good possibility for setdancing and music.
Any advice about sessions in Dingle (or anywhere else in Kerry) would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Other regular session, & occassional ceilis (also in Dingle itself), on the penninsula ~
Ventry, Dunquin, Ballyferriter, Ballydavid...

The Dingle sessions are all within walking distance of each other... I've sent you an email regarding some of your query, and apologies for my bias, as in Summer I'd recommend anyplace other than the Dingle, unless you are travelling by boat... ;-)

Re: sessions in Dingle in August

Cahersiveen, Portmagee & Valencia Island have fun sessions and regular activity, including dance... There used to be regular events in a pub/bar in Chapletown but I can't seem to find a listing for that place anymore?

Don't go in the pub with the dolphin, he's a bit of a wet blanket.

Re: sessions in Dingle in August

I shouldn't be rude about the dolphin, I suspect the area's economy would suffer a severe downturn if he left.
There'd still be the music, though.
