Having watched the clip at http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_217_2_turloughmore_ceili_band it makes me all the more curious why this great céilí band never took an All-Ireland title. They came second on numerous (4 or 5) occasions but never managed to achieve the ultimate victory. Their music is as good as, and better than many of the bands that took the title throughout the last 50 plus years but the title always eluded them. Like the Laichtín Naofa (another great Clare band from the 1950s) it seems we'll never know why they've been denied the supreme honour.
Politics, who you know, the skill of 'brown-nosing' ~ ???
This and many other related reasons could be why I hate competition of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd sort as it exercises its foul influences on these things we profess to share a passion for... I have seen enough injustice and insidious shight to have developed this strong bias against this form of abuse...
competitions never really bothered me. If you don't want to be judged on your music don't enter the things. Anyway I prefer Johnny Reidy's ceili band. They get the biggest crowds and play the best music. They never won an all ireland either but they never entered and don't have to. The crowds speak for themselves. Ceili music is to be enjoyed not to get hung up an adjudicators and points and marks
Turloughmore Rules !!!

Re: Turloughmore Rules !!!
Because competitions, with judges, become personal choice, and prejudice.
And does it matter? How many great musicians do you know who never won any competitions?

Re: Turloughmore Rules !!!
Why not Leeds? Because some of the members weren't actually from Leeds?http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_216_1_leeds_ceili_band

Re: Turloughmore Rules !!!
Hey, John. I've sent copies of an old Leeds Comhaltas tape to Zina, Kenny, and "ceolachan." They will judge if you were good enough.
