Sessions in west Cornwall?

Sessions in west Cornwall?

I’ll be in Penzance Cornwall from 7th to 14th July so I’ve done some research on sessions in the vicinity. The good news is that I’ve found three, but the bad news is that they all happen on the same night of the week – Tuesday. I’ve found the Pirate Inn Penzance on this website, & elsewhere I’ve found the Western Hotel in St Ives and the King’s Arms in Paul. What I’d be really grateful for is some inside information – which if any are definitely happening on Tuesday 10th July & what average percentage of Irish music does each one have (as I can’t play much else)? Thanks for your help.

There's a cornish arts music and dance website, I think it's called an-daras.com
You may find some info on there.

If you can get out to St. Just then I'd recommend the Monday night session in the Star Inn - probably the longest-running session in Cornwall. More info at -

A bit further away but the session in The Chain Locker in Falmouth is worth the trip. It used to be my regular session before I moved away. It's on every other Thursday. See -

Both are predominantly Irish music.

Have fun! Mike

Mick. The McMahon's are eagerly awaiting their postcard from Cornwall ! is this a solo tour or have you put the gates back together without telling me.

Re: Sessions in west Cornwall?

Freddie & Mike - thanks for your suggestions. Falmouth is a bit too far, but the Star Inn sounds very tempting. It will probably be a question of how many session evenings I can negotiate. Smac - you'll get your postcard, but that's the last time I put my holiday plans on the internet.
