Mairin - That'd be the one. But it *is* spelt with two Ls. Except in the Community Hall, where, above the stage, you can find the inscription, "Miltown Boxing Club", with one L.
You'll also find signposts in the area pointing to 'Mullough', 'Mullagh' and 'Mullach'. And they'll all take you to the same place.
I've just done Google searches on 'Miltown Malbay' and 'Milltown Malbay'. Indeed, there are more hits for the former, so I stand at least partially corrected. There are quite a number of hits for the latter as well, althouigh that doesn't really say anything, as most people can't spell.
But why have they put up new signs saying "Milltown Malbay"? Was it a mistake or a bureaucratic decision to change the spelling? Perhaps the sign writers charge a flat fee for up to 14 letters and Clare County Council wanted their money's worth.
We'll have an 'L' of a time no matter what way ye spell it - have you tried spelling Ballysodare? Even the signs at the town itself have at least 5 different versions!
Hi fiddlercjp, was wondering is it POB Tipp or POB Offaly that is one of your influneces? I think we should go to the cruiser them guys would have gone to but they were probably different venues, were they?
Well, I was there last year and called into The Central, I think about the anointed time but no sign of any session.org's there, unless you're all under 18. Maybe, yous had moved on. I suppose I was a little late but hey, this is Ireland - nothing is supposed to happen on time!
Hi Afrocelt,
POB tipp is the one I had in mind, though I do enjoy them both. Some of my favorite of his tunes: Dinny O'Briens, penny candle, nervous man, smiling lady, barge in, hanly's tweed, ormond sound.
hope to meet you in Mil(l)town!
Want any 'zouks' Eddie or is there no dancing allowed ?
I'll drop in with or without the 'axe'
At least I'll recognize you now after the 'Snaps' thread.
The reason I always choose the Central is 'cause there's loads of room. If it turns out that there isn't, we could decamp to Michael A's, which doesn't tend to get busy until later.
If the pubs in Miltown get too packed then you might like to drop over to Lahinch on a Tues night and join us in the Clarmont Hotel where, - - - wait for it - - -, 'LILT' are playing.
Just back from Miltown. The session did actually happen and was well attended ; unfortunately Saint didn't make it and we also moved venue to Malone's. Will post some photos as soon as I can extract them from my phone. Worked really well from about 4pm to 7pm while the pub was quiet and the patrons were appreciative but we couldn't compete with the noise of the local revellers when we restarted for an evening session (after downing the scampis and pizzas). We should definitely do it again ; thanks to all who showed up. Kevin.
Really sorry I could nt be there got sick tuesday night and had to come home wed morning. It was great to meet a couple of session members. Sorry again but at least ye did n't have to listen to loud out of time drumming .Back to reality what a downer . Less drink next year I think.
Sorry to have missed it - work committments! Got there 24 hours late on Thursday where there was a good session going on with Ger Hegarty and Claire Watts plus another 20 or so musicians. There wasn't a PA player so I assume Conan had either gone home or found an alternative venue. I noticed Maurice Lennon, Kieran Hanrahan and Brendan McGlinchey going into the back room where there must have been a mighty session going on. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to check it out but there's always a chance before the weekend.

It is actually spelt 'Miltown' with the one 'l'. Only recently (three weeks ago) new signs have gone up pointing to 'Milltown Malbay'
