Re: How to download TG4 web video??

I could really do with this facility too, as I only have broadband at work and whilst I can download stuff I couldn't justify sitting there to watch it...

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

This question seems to come up. How about this: has anyone saved a video file from TG4?
I see they are using windows media player. I can open the URL in my player, but then it does not allow me to save a copy.

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

A streaming video is usually stored temporarily in the browser's cache, from which it should be retrievable. This is what has worked for me, and, incidentally, where it starts to get a bit technical. Note that all of the following relates to a Windows PC - I don't really know what goes on under the bonnet in Linux or a Mac!

First, do all the following before you quit your browser. This is because caches are often set up to be cleared when you leave the browser.

Second, find your browser's cache. Unfortunately, it's not always in an obvious location, but use your computer's search to look for files containing "cache" in the title. It may also be a hidden file, so check "Show hidden files and folders" in Control Panel/Folder Options/View.

Third, identify the video file in the cache. It should be one of the most recent and it will be large, usually several MB.

Fourth, drag the video file from the cache to a safe location, e.g. desktop or a folder on your hard drive.

Fifth, rename the file suffix to whatever is appropriate, and rename the main part if you wish.

A very useful item of freeware for converting videos from one format to another is SUPER © which can be downloaded from http://www.eRightSoft.com

I've placed a link to SUPER © in the ABC Software section Links, where I've also placed a link to Audio Converter, a free utility that does what its says, from http://www.softwarepile.com

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

& that is the mystery. They stream video with the .aspx extension
You "might" be able to save the video. From what I can tell now either it can not be stored with any video format extension . . .
or it would take a great deal of effort to save a video file from TG4.

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

Well, I haven't even managed to open any programs in WMP itself, only through the embedded player at www.tg4.ie . I think .aspx might just be a way of hiding the stream as .asp stands for Active Server Pages, which is MS's way of running scripts on their servers. So there might be some reference to the actual stream in the .aspx file.

I ran across SUPER somewhere else recently and have been trying to download it, but the download always seems to fail and their site doesn't support resuming downloads. Very tedious.

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

If you get Quicktime pro for about $20 you can save the videos as quicktime movie, and watch then when ever you want then.

Re: How to download TG4 web video??

I am downloading the TG4 archive programme about Frankie Kennedy as I write. Am using a very recent version of Real Audio. Unfortunately it doesn't do scheduled recording.
