Re: Jig Quiz

The first is Give Us A Drink Of Water - presumably the same as The Swaggering Jig.

Re: Jig Quiz

That was the other title. It's called The Swaggering Jig in O'Neill's.Give Us A Drink Of Water is in O'Neill's too.I believe the confusion arose when The Bothy Band missnamed it on their album.

Re: Jig Quiz

Is the second one Bill Harte's?

I thought so at first - now I am less convinced

Re: Jig Quiz

No, it's not Bill Harte's. I do know it from somewhere..

Re: Jig Quiz

Damn it - I don't know the tune but managed to pull a 4/5 note phrase out of the tune and it was the only tune that came up when I searched for it. I was feeling right smug at first but the second part is not as repetative in Bill Harte's as this tune.

Re: Jig Quiz

"Why they going that speed?"

Because they can or because they have had that many drinks that it seemed a good idea at the time.

Re: Jig Quiz

What is a Yellow Wattle? A note by Dow under the tune's Comments says it's a flowering bush ( or plant, or tree..) in Australia, but does it also mean something closer to Micho Russell's part of the world? (He liked the tune.)

Re: Jig Quiz

I'd guess it means the acacia, then.

Re: Jig Quiz

The plant is unknown in Ireland so my bet's on the turkeys.
