Re: Argentina branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann.
It's great to see some of our great ITM players get recognition in "the motherland of the music we love". Way to go, guys!
And I can't wait until they get back and the Buenos Aires Comhaltas starts working - if it does half the things I heard it is going to do, the ITM movement in Argentina is going to take some giant steps ahead!
Re: Argentina branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann.
They'll be more than welcome at the Monkstown sessions in Dublin but we'll be hoping for an invitation to join them in Buenos Aires in the not too distant future!
Re: Argentina branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann.
Just picked up this info over on the Comhaltas site which will be of interest to anyone who wants to link up with the Argentinian musicians:
River Plate Branch are on tour in Ireland and would like to meet with other branches for a session. They are in Ballina tonight 20th Jun, Westport tomorrow In the Culturlann on Saturday, O’Sheas merchant on Sunday. Would you like to host a session for them? Give me (Vince Hearns) a call on 0872746033 or e-mail me at meitheal.gurteen@comhaltas.com.
A new branch of CCE (Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann - http://comhaltas.ie/ ) is being setup in Beunos Aires, following successful tour of Ireland of ITM from Argentina - details to added.
I've just heard that the "Martin Byrnes" Comhaltas branch in Co. Galway are looking to twin with the River Plate Branch, as well as the "Admiral Brown", Foxford (a new Mayo branch). There's never been a rush like that to twin up with Clare branches but then I suppose we're not quite as exotic as Buenos Aires! Seriously though it's a great development having a base for Irish trad on the South American continent and maybe we'll get a chance to get there for a few tunes one day.
Hopefully someone will do a write up on the River Plate branch recent visit to Ireland as I've heard interesting bits here and there about playing with Peter Horan in Sligo, Matt Molloy in Westport and a great night on a boat in Galway where they played into the night in view of the hills of Clare across the Bay.
