With all this talk about money and festivals I have come across a festival in France with Lunasa, Dervish and Liz Carroll and its Free !!
Workshops are Free!
And Camping is free if you are a musician!!
Boo-hoo. I'm at Womad then. With family and friends. But Pound for Euro, including travelling, the free one looks better value. Deffo better value if you're ahemmm!...a "Celtic"...ermm..."Musician"
Unfortunately, this "free pass" may pave the way for every eggist and spoonist, goatwhacker and rainstickologist from the Shetlands to Ossetia, from Ulster to the Urals, to flaunt their fing. So it might be worth the while of the organisers to ensure their definition of "musician" is watertight enough to mean just that. Musicians, not card trick magicians.
Simple enough, KML!
At the gate, everyone must demonstrate that they can either play or sing an acceptable example from their own culture. In English, it could be standardized to Danny Boy, for example.
But alas, no free camping and the tickets from here to there are pricey... I'm with Key, boo hoo on both counts ~ But at least he has Womad with family and friends...
I see, for the one at Mesquers, they call it "MTI", Musique Traditionale Irlandaise...not to be confused with MIT...
It's like what David Baddiel said about KFC; "It's KFC everywhere in the World, except Quebec ( big roar of laughter from Montreal audience ) where it's had to be translated into French and re-branded - they don't even insist upon this in France ! Well, I guess they did for ITM....
But, seriously, folks.......
Was just adding up our summer schedule; Towersey £80 for the weekend, plus camping....per head, and daughter wants to go too..
Dartmoor FF a lower key event but much less.....
might try to get in Saturday at Ely, but I've been offered (non-musical ) work on Sunday, so can't stay all weekend. (Sigh)
So is anyone going to this festival in Batz-sur-Mer? Sounds like a great time -- my wife and I will definitely be there. Anyone know of any safe way to store instruments while camping (assuming there won't be sessions at every hour of the day)?

Re: Best Value Festival
Rhythm instrumentalists would have to keep to within 1.4bpm for a period of no less than 60 seconds metric.

Re: Best Value Festival
By the way if you can't read French like what I can't, if you Google the following "lasession.free" and then use Google translation. Voila!
