Well, yes there are, tho I don't think there's a session. Ask around at the contra dances - there's a harpist that can get you in touch with the fiddlers and more that play, and one of the fiddler's husbands does the sound often. Dgo has a good number of musicians that are active and many years ago actually had a ceili band called Wild Geese, and I think a couple of them are still around. But the harpist and the sound guy at the contra dance are a good place to start - tell them Cathy Turner from Santa Fe sent you -
I don't go to contra dances, nor do I know where I would find one in the city. Any contact info for locals? There's only one "irish" pub (that really isn't in any sense of the term) and they know nothing of Irish trad. music or any local scene there. PLENTY of bluegrass of course...
Just was hoping to contact, or perhaps be contacted by some of the Irish ilk in town. Thanks!
Well, Dgo's not quite a "city" yet I don't think , and there'll be posters around town for the dances, which are held on the first Sat of the month at the VFW at 15th and Main. There's a big Celtic fest every year, too, so you'll find some there. It would be worth stopping in at the dance even if you don't dance - Dgo's a small town and the networking can be fairly straight forward. Since the folks I know there that play Irish music aren't on this board I don't feel like I can shout out their personal identities here, but they really aren't hard to find. And the link Laitch gives is a great idea - have fun - Dgo's in a beautiful part of CO, and I still miss the geography.
Any players in Durango, CO.?
Any players in Durango, CO.?
Will be moving there this weekend from 20+ years in Salt Lake. Would love to hook up with any local irish types out there.
