the album Portland by Kevin Burke And Mícheál O'Domhnaill
the album Portland by Kevin Burke And Mícheál O'Domhnaill
Hi folks , can anyone recommend a Kevin Burke album as good as this? ( or any album as good as this! ).
Is Promenade in the same vein ?
How about in Tandem with Ged Foley?
Thanks for any recommendations.

I like his "In Concert" cd as well as anything, or from way back in the day, "Sweeney's Dream."
I don't know the details, but at least some of the tracks on Portland sound like they dubbed the fiddle on top of itself--interesting "chorus" effect, but not something I want to listen to ad infinitum.

I think "If the Cap Fits" is the best. It is available from www.kevinburke.com. "In Concert" is very nice, and so is Sweeney's Dream. Everything else is a tier below I would say.

"Portland" and "Promenade" are quite similar, I'd say. I don't think Kevin Burke has ever made an album I didn't like. Agree with "crazy_fingerz" about "If The Cap Fits" being my favourite too. I also like "The Eavesdropper" with Jacky Daly, which has the added bonus of Conal O'Grada on a couple of tracks.
Heard Kevin and Ged in Australia earlier this year and bought "In Tandem" - like it a lot too.

Across the Black River is enjoyable. I would say it's a bit subdued compared to earlier releases. I just got my ticket for the CD release party on June 23 in Portland. I can't wait.

Portland and Promenade are quite similar in a way, like Kenny said, but after Portland i found Promenade slightly disappointing.
Haven't heard the newest two (with Ged Foley, 'In Tandem', and with Cal Scott, 'Across the Black River') yet.
Any opinions about the latter?

Promenade is not in the same vein. It's ok but there are only four tracks on each side (I have it on vinyl),not really a rip-off but it's very short.
