I just got back from a fine weekend in Dublin and had some great tunes . What surprised me was the way the sessions work in the Cobblestone - on a sort of rota system - i came in to a great session and about half an hour later most people left and another crew took over, did their 2 hours and all change again- Interesting! i did get to play with some great players though- Had great craic with Joe Foley in O'donoghues as well. i was also made to feel very welcome ! Grand!
You'd have no problem there bliss.
Some like to sit tight and wait for the next lot to come in.
If they're clever, they usually get them selves a good seat they can stay in all night long....
You got to make sure that the seat you intend to stay in is not one that someone else 'always sits in' otherwise you can feel their eyes burning into the back of your neck.....
Its the paid session 'conveyor belt' system again.
Two hours are up, you had yer free two pints, get paid and move on to the next one. It ruined Galway and I can't see why bars can't have four or five good musicians, real crowd pleasers, on all evening.
Thats what happens in Belfast. Not necessarily the same musicians every week but good 'anchormen' to make sure it happens and quality musicians are choosen each week. Some sessions in Belfast have the same old faithfuls each week which is also great and drums up a good loyal following turning up each week.

It was Sunday afternoon bout 5.30 and Tom walsh was also there so a bit of a Zouk fest- also a lovely banjo player who's name i didn't catch.

It's just that the Dubs have no staying power, and can't drink for more than two hours. Look at their football team.
