Hohner Morgane B/C basses

Hohner Morgane B/C basses

Is there anyone who could tell me what the basses in the Double Ray B/C sold by themusicroom-online.co.uk are exactly? They advertise that the basses are suitable for G, D and A tunes. Is the configuration perhaps the same as in the Saltarelle Bouebe B/C (sold by them too). Here is the link to the Double Ray:

Just last week I received my new Hohner Morgane B/C which is a very, very, very nice box. I am totally satisfied expect the following, a temporary set-back.

Before ordering I had asked the Hohner factory about the basses, if they are the same as in the Double Ray B/C, suitable for fiddle tunes. I knew about the danger of getting the old Honer bass system so I decided to ask before buying.

Now I discover that the chords are D#, F# and G#m which are just the ones I didn't want. So I worte to the Hohner factory again and they told me to send the Morgane to Germany for bass change. They were very sorry about the mistake and said that it was because this being a new product. No-one before me has so far complained about the basses.

So, now I could ask for the Saltarelle B/C configuration, but I am very much interested in what basses themusicroom-online.co.uk has in the Double Ray B/C they are selling, maybe it's not the same as in the Saltarelle?

Thanks,

Risto

Re: Hohner Morgane B/C basses

Hi there Risto. Could you tell us a little more about why you think this is a 'very very very nice box'? Quality reeds/sound? Action? Weight? All round quality? I'm sure we'd all like to hear more!!

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Hohner Morgane B/C basses

Hi Mark,

I do not want to be a sales/spokesman for Hohner because other people may have a totally different opinion than I do. Anyway, here is what I personally think of the Morgane after using it for a couple of months:

positives:

- well and strongly built, will last a long time

- all mechanics work well and accurately

- nice looks

- the Morgane is based on the old Erika (with 'k') concept, just modernised.

negatives:

- the tuning was too wet for me, I didn't specify it when ordering and I need to have it retuned. Besides, I will be getting more professional reeds later.

- treble button travel was too long for my style (appr. 4 ... 5 mm) and I have already changed this.

- no bass or treble stops

- bass button springs are too heavy for me but I will have this changed as I will be getting a totally different 12 button bass arrangement.

If it would be possible to get the Hohner Galaad model 21+4 treble & 12 bass in B/C tuning I now would probably take it instead if it is at the same price range than Morgane.

Regards,
Risto

Re: Hohner Morgane B/C basses

Here is the data sheet for Galaad, the text says 8 bass buttons but the picture shows different:
