Here is an extract of a session with Paddy Carthy and there is a tune I'd like to know the name. It is the second tune in the set. I don't know if I am permitted to share these files I will delete them if someone ask me. It's a nice recording, very traditional...
The first reel is Molly Bawn which is here at http://w.ww.thesession.org/tunes/display/1637/details. The second is that great three parter, Boys of Ballisodare. Paddy from East Galway was a teriffic musician but doesn't seem to have left that many recordings after him.
While on Youtube I stumbled on a recording of the Bothy Band at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnhwIv4-d-Q&mode=related&search= On the same page there was a selection of clips including some of their best known tunes (before you ask, the Kesh jig was one of them!)
i came across the paddy carty youtube clip several months ago and watch it every couple of weeks. he is part of my pantheon....i wish there were more recordings available from him, and same with lucy farr, also from east galway....on the liner notes to "anglo international," the three-cd anthology of anglo concertina playing, london's mandy murray notes that he was one of her most-admired players, and you can sure hear that in her concertina style.....
The first flute album I ever bought was Paddy Carty (Traditional Music Of Ireland). Some cracking tunes on there and well played. Erm, don't like the banjo backing (alongsiding) though, but that's just me.
Yes, I came accross that clip on youtube last week, was also thinking of posting.
There is a superb cassette tape released about 25+ years ago of Paddy Carty and the superb Galway fiddler Conor Tully accompanied very tastefully by Frank Hogan (Caltra) on mandola. This was never released on CD unfortunately but must be ranked in the top five or so of all time great recordings
It would be fantastic if it could be released on CD as it's one I've not come across (I was aware of the one Curlew referred to with the banjo back in the seventies but unfortunately mislaid it a long time). Maybe someone might contact the original Record company to see if a conversion could be done or if they're no longer in business then an organisation like Comhaltas might take on the project. They've done a similar thing recently with the 1959 Laichtín Naofa Céilí Band LP and it's a great CD which now enables young musicians not even born in 1959 to hear and enjoy this legendary band.
I remember Frank Hogan telling me some time ago that there was some dispute about the ownership of the tapes so it will never be released on CD I fear.Conor Tully has never released a CD of his fiddle playing either and this is also a disgrace as he is a master fiddler and should be ranked with the very best, His music is a pure pleasure to listen to.When I think of the many fiddle CDs released over the last 20 years and most of them could not hold a candle to Conor Tully
I have that session tape/CD your track is from. My copy is labelled "Moylan's, Loughrea, 1991" which is obviously wrong for the date since Paddy died in 1985.
I'll add a comment at your page - I have the track listing, mostly complete although I'm not entirely up to snuff on Galway music.

Re: A Paddy Carthy session...
The first tune is the Stoney Steps. The second one sounds a bit like Palmer's Gate.

Re: A Paddy Carty session...
This is a coincidence as I found a Paddy Carty clip on Youtube and was in two minds as to whether to post it or not so here's the ideal opportunity!

Re: A Paddy Carthy session...
This is a great pity. I can never understand how egos can be placed in the way of great music being made available as widely as possible.
