Does anyone have a clue where a fella might find a copy of this album by Mick Hanly & Micheal O Domhnaill? I've heard that it was deleted, and so never came out on CD.
I have it on cassette somewhere.Great album, with a version of "The Hag At The Churn" played on guitar and Appalachian dulcimer.I wonder if I can lay my hands on it?
Found it.I'd forgotten how good it is.I think it was recorded before the Bothy band was formed."The Heathery Hills Of Yarrow" is on there, and a good version of The Pentangles' "No Love Is Sorrow", a set of Breton dances. Thanks for reminding me.
The problem with this album is that it was released on Polydor at a time when the label had an Irish office and, like every UK label which had a similar facility at the time in Ireland, stuff seems to have gone missing. I've tried to track down who actually has the master tapes, if they still exist, but to no avail.
I'll be meeting up with Mick Hanly in a while and may be able to do something about this.
The last time I saw it was in the Final Vinyl shop on Camden Street about three years ago. That shop is now closed. The album was going for 34 Euro and I should have bought it but didn't.
In view of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill's tragic passing, it would be nice if it could be re-released on CD. Maybe it could even be re-mastered from a good vinyl copy if the original tapes can't be found?
Not sure about the quality you would obtain by re-mastering from vinyl copy ( be a bit like scanning the Mona Lisa...)
I have two perfect copies of this album - one of which has never been played - I'd happily use them to recreate this wonderful album on to C.D.
The 're - issued' C.D. seems highly suspect - there are a ton of web sites selling Celtic F.C. related tat and anything remotely associated with it - but it's usually the more 'extreme' stuff.
Has anyone got a copy of this C.D. and confirmed its the same thing we are talking about. - could possibly have been churned out on someones home p.c.
Finally, so sad to hear of Michael's passing. He was responsible for probably the finest album to come out of Ireland in the early 70's. ( I would say, Horslips - 'Happy to meet...' Planxty - 'Black', Christy's 'Whatever tickles your fancy' & 'Chieftains 4' were the four others.

Could be quite expensive - last one I saw on ebay went for around £40.

The catalogue number, by the way, is 2908 013
