Sharon Shannon DVD

G'day all,
I'm putting in an order soon for some DVD's from Claddagh Records and there's one there by Sharon Shannon...Live at Doolans..
I vaguely remember some not too good reviews here some time back....( cant find'em now)
Can anyone who's seen this DVD please offer their opinions...
Thanks....all the best.......zoukboy....

Re: Sharon Shannon DVD

Very little traditional music on it, "zoukboy" - I wouldn't recommend it at all.
[ P.S. - Got my flute class to record a few tunes for you last night - will be in touch soon ].

G'day to you Kenny,Thanks for your input here...a bit of a shame about that.. I have a Late Late Late show video tribute to her and its pretty good.
At this stage,I look like ordering 3 DVD's .......Geantrai,aparently from a TV series,The Pogues and another by John Spillane
Very much looking forward to the Music

Re: Sharon Shannon DVD

It's an absolutely great DVD, not trad. like, but party like. Very good musicians and singers. Just buy it - I can only recommend it...

Re: Sharon Shannon DVD

I was at Sharon's concert in the Olympia Theatre (Dublin) in March 2007 but still got a great buzz out of it despite there not being as much Irish traditional music as there would have been through her earlier phases. That's how multi-national her music has become... I bought that DVD some time ago but have yet to get round to playing it

Re: Sharon Shannon DVD

Thanks folks....
Now thats made my decision easier !!! One nay,one yay and one dunno yet !!! Ah,the beauty of individual taste..........
I live in country New South Wales ...Australia... and the closest places from here to see or play Irish (Trad or otherwise) are hundreds of miles away so I'm trying to build up a bit of a library of Traditional music, and its offshoots,to satisfy a need...I have the Planxty.Danu,Dervish etc, offerings and always get pleasure from seeing them...
What sh*ts me about some productions is that the director/producer tries to inject too much of his or her own cleverness into the show, thus obscuring the subject matter...BBC documentaries are particularly guilty of this....
What I heard about the Sharon DVD was that she was out front by herself under the spotlight while the band was way back in the shadows....this is not what I'd like to see....to those that have seen the DVD...is this the case ???
Being starved for all things Irish out here in the sticks,I'll probably take a punt ....and buy it ...
Best wishes all.........zoukboy.......
