Hi all, Just to let you all know that my site (Which i hope is going to do for WTM what thesession.org did for ITM) Is now online at http://www.welshtraditionalmusic.com I'll post the adress in the links section. Just be warned that I still consider it in the beta stage of development, and you won't find any links to the discussion forum, because I havent put the discussions page online yet. The page should be compleat by the end of the week. If you have any Welsh tunes, Links, or know of any sessions please add them to my site!
Dafydd
Congratulations Dafydd, and you're off to a great start! I registered, although I'll be surprised if I ever have anything to contribute to your site because I know absolutely nothing about Welsh trad music. I do hope, however, to learn a lot, and I've started with Ty A Gardd, a solid little jig that I'm very happy to add to my repertoire.
Now, to further my education, why is Ty A Gardd listed as a "hornpipe," and what does the title translate to in Americanish?
To me, your new site is a wonderful outgrowth of the dialogues we have here at thesession.org, and an excellent parallel to Jeremy's work. It's a fine and constructive response to all that hulabaloo we had last month about which tunes should be posted here, and I for one am thrilled that we now have www.welshtraditionalmusic.com to add to bookmark as well.
Dafydd...your site is looking great. I've heard so much about Welsh music on here that I'm looking forward to peeking in on your site to see what all the fuss is about. Best to you!
Thanks! I'll start putting the english names fro tunes, for xample= Ty a gardd (Gardd="garth") House and Garden. Also there will be a discussion forum comeing soon. I've not finished programming that yet!
Your site is really important. Try and make sure as best you can that each tune is labelled correctly as the right genre (as Will noted above) and make sure that people submit sound ABC files (there are a couple that I have looked at and can't read - I read sheetmusic). If necessary, advise them to check their versions of tunes against the other web indexes like JC's Tunefinder. It's *so* important because you are taking on the role of perpetuating an ongoing tradition, and I think you'll find that your site will become a resource for a lot of people. I think it's your duty now to know as much as you possibly can about the origins of each tune, the transcription of each tune, and everything else about the tradition that you possibly can. Good luck to you!
Looks good! However, I noticed that the links on the right-hand navigation bar don't work on every one of the pages -- perhaps a simple CSS code will do the trick for you.
However, to the best of my knowledge, hornpipes aren't in 6\8 and as Mark mentioned, many of the tunes are unreadable because of missing barlines.
The first few days are always hard
D'ye suppose all the ITM purists from this site will rush over and start posting all of those Russian jigs and Egyptian reels they've been protesting against over here?
Good luck!
the website is excellent dafydd, but im having trouble registering.
i sent all the info to you but then nothing happened. it reckoned it sent the mail, but i dont know.
The (and I know this is down to my bad programming) the registration page gives any confirmation is when there is malfunction and data has not been saved, yes you are registerd bunyip.
Now, Dafydd, all you have to do is retreat and become an enigmatic character that nobody is sure really exists. Only speak when it's something really important to do with the site and make your words truly profound. Ensure that when you speak, it is in a slightly brusque manner. If someone puts a foot wrong on your site, give them a good telling off and then retreat back into your lair. Only kidding Jeremy
