You could always buy a C flute and play the fingering for E dorian. If you did that, flexibility would give you the oppurtunity to play great tunes like:
Well, the second part of TF#3 is in Dmix, but it definitely has D dorian feel.
This is just my personal opinion, but why do you have to buy a C flute to play a small number of good D dorian tunes? I'd rather sit back and listen to others playing them.
