i've just recently joined the belfast sessions and have found that i don't know many of the tunes played up here! i know it's very hard to know names of tunes cause i don't know them myself, but if you know ANY names of tunes played up here, doesn't matter if it's jigs, reels, whatever, i would be really grateful to you, cheers
Hi Desy, Glad to know you're getting stuck in to the Belfast session scene. The repertoire there is certainly a bit different. Do you have any recordings so that people can identify specific tunes for you?
what sessions are you at ?some people i think know names and some dont no matter where you are, i would say that the tunes in Bfast are pretty diverse the place is bulging with loads of great tunesters and it depends on the pub

Well if there are say 90 tunes played each week drawn on a spontaneous semi-rotating basis from a stock of between one and two thousand (some much more popular than others, of course) you will have plenty to do.
But if there are say 90 tunes played each week drawn on a spontaneous semi-rotating basis from a stock of a couple of hundred (some much more popular than others, of course), you have something less daunting.
Good luck in either case!

how about playing the tunes you know and let them learn a new tune or two surley a good melody player would love this and this will half your prob. at the end of the day you are bringing tunes to a session.
I can travel an hour up the road and scratch my head and say why are they playing these tune's.. The last time I was in Belfast it was on...I felt like I was at home.. Keep it rolling Big B.. I'll be back for some more..
