caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

Hey! Well I got the best news last night when looking around the internet: caoimhin o'raghallaigh has a new cd which you can supposedly get on www.cdbaby.com but I have searched and searched on this database and can't find it. Anyone have a link? Going by his tracks on his myspace page it will be unbelievable. It's so exciting!

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

er thanks ceolachan but I know about those two!

The one I'm looking for is a short album that he just put out in the last week or so, as far as I know it's a solo album. I don't have a myspace account or I would have mailed him. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out.

But thanks for your efforts anyway

I suspected as much, that you would already be familiar with those, not being 'recent', but noticed that there were two different spellings of the name on site here and that consequently the two recordings weren't linked. I then thought, maybe? That lack of link may change...

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

Great link spoon, and from that interview with the man, the concluding remark, just for posterity ;-) ~

"And whatever else – I had two or three students down in Miltown Malbay, and some of them where fantastic. They just soaked up music, so I’d give them CDs of John Kelly and Bobby Casey and Patrick Kelly and like that, and tell them to go and listen and come back with a tune. And we’d go through it and look at different things like bowing or tuning, all the different things that you could take out of it. I enjoyed that, but what I don’t enjoy is teaching people who don’t really want to learn, which is what you would get if you set up as a teacher, in Dublin or anywhere else. You get people who their mum wants to have their little boy play fiddle. That’s how I started off, so I did need people to teach me, but I don’t think I’m a teacher. I just try to inspire people: maybe there’s a role for that as well."

Turas Go Tir Na nÓg is no longer available - only a small number of copies were made, to raise money for charity, and all were sold. Caoimhin doesn't even have a copy himself.

I look forward to the new one.

I'm going to see Caoimhin in Manorhamilton on Fri night, playing with Brendan Begley. If the CD is for sale there, I'll be buying a copy. Can get you a copy as well if you contact me through here

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

I'm going to that gig myself and never thought, strayaway, that he could well be selling the cd there. Which would be great cause then cdbaby don't get 10% of the sale! Have to head home to get my vote in and got the day off work, so I'll be exploring some of north leitrim as well. Yay!
Spoon, amazing interview, weirdly the quote ceolachan took from it is the one that resonated for me as well. Very honest.

Maybe see you there, smuit, could you wear a pink boa or something for recognition purposes. Dunno if you've been to The Glens Centre before, but, its a fantastic small arena (cap. about 120) so get there early

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

It's heartening for me, actually. I've had a couple of people ask me for mandolin lessons in the past few months. I know I'm no teacher by nature - I haven't a clue how you do it. I don't know how to inspire people either, but one of these people, at least, asked me for lessons after hearing me play, so I must have inspired him somehow. I apparently failed to inspire the other one, as she gave up after two lessons.

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

That's great cause I saw him at Airfield House about two years ago, he was playing with mick o'brien, and there were all these kids at it in the front row, and since it was one of the kid's birthdays they were eating crisps and chocolate and the noise they were making was driving me mad! Can't wait for this gig, actually I haven't yet been in the Glens. Should be a really fun night :)

Re: caoimhin o'raghallaigh's new album on cdbaby! Woo hoo!

Cant help feeling Mick O Brien is the main man in that particular duet. Caoimhin's imitation of the kerry style is just that. An imitation.

I love their duet playing. It's beautiful. I wish I could imitate like that.
