Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Play it safe, go monotonal, follow the way of the drone...

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

In tune notes belong in the tune and out of tune notes belong out of the tune, unless they're bad tempered notes in which case they're all part of the tradition...

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

When hunting for tunes, I wonder what would be the best and most humane trap? You definitely don't want it crippled, or to chop anything off, and you wouldn't want it hyped up with adrenalin and spittin' to take a bite out of your or to claw you. Peanut butter is good for the rat family, I wonder if that would work on tunes. The other important thing to be aware of is habitat... And of course, after the capture, if you handle it roughly it will turn on you...

Any 'tune whisperers' out there?

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Drone? Bees?

This man got a job at London Zoo odd jobbing and cleaning out the animal cages. On the first day his boss said to him "Here take this booklet - it gives the prices of all the animals, so if you accidentally kill one while doing your job, look it up in the booklet and that tells you how much is coming out of your wages. Now could you take this brush and shovel and go over there to the aviary and clean it out, please?"

So our hero dutifully goes over and sweeps out the aviary. In the middle of this task a bird falls down dead right beside him. He looks at it and identifies it as a finch - looks up finch in the book - £50! Oh no! So he takes the dead finch over to the lion's cage and feeds it to the lion. No-one is the wiser - phew!

Later on, he is cleaning out the ape enclosure when two baby chimps fall down dead right beside him. Looks up "chimp" in the book - £200! Help! Takes them over to the lion's cage, feeds them to the lion and no-one is the wiser. Phew!

Later still, he is about to cut the grass with a petrol-powered lawn mower, but try as he might he can't get the it started. So he pulls the lever really hard and the thing sets off out of control and makes straight for a bee's hive - smash! Right into all the bees killing them. Our hero looks up bee's hive in the bokk £500! Oh no! takes all the mushy bees over to the lion's cage and feeds them to the lion. No-one is the wiser - phew!

Later still that day a new lion is put into the lion's cage. The two lions start chatting.
" How're ye doing?" asks the new inmate.
"Oh not too bad" answers the incumbent.
"What's the food like here, then?"
"Mmmm, very good actually - you know, already today I've had Finch, Chimps and Mushy Bees."

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

I agree with ukestrum, I like each seperate tone within the context of the tune to pleasingly go with all the other tones. I certainly don't want to hear any "raucous" sounding notes slipping in there and spoiling the whole thing.

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Hey, KML, you gave it away with a premature mention of mushy bees! As soon as I saw that my brain was racing. Good 'un though! :-D

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Mmmm, dessert, mushy bees and honey... A bit of mint wouldn't go amiss...

So, any sufferers of tinnitis? What tones does your's play? Is it an "mmmmmm" or a "zzzzzzz", an "aaaaaaa", "eeeeeee" or "ooooooooo"? What pitch? Does it change?

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

I've had tinnitus for decades. Could explain my ill humour at times. I have a low hum in my right ear and a very high eeeee on the same side that has now gone central on me. 24/7. I've been told it won't lead to deafness. Mind over matter is what works. Nowt else does.

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

I have tinnitus as a result of a concussioin. The tone varies but usualy a high pitched eeeeee. Sometimes a low pitche ahhhhh. Rhe tinnirus is 24/7 too Steve. According to my doctor it may or may not be permanent. Playing the fiddle hleps though to dull the sound.

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

There's a skylark in the hot summer sky. Apart from that, there's no sound. Down in the little valley, and higher in the hills, grasshoppers are sizzling and bees are buzzing and the grass is alive with micro-noise. But it's always quiet around the stones.

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

I get the fish and chips but don't get the mushy bees...must be a UK thing...

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Mushy *peas* are very much a UK thing but I always thought they were more popular in the North of England rather than down in "The Smoke".

We get them in Scotland too, especially in seaside towns. Looking forward to a nice fish tea with the mushy peas in Girvan (weekend after next).

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

You can tune a guitar but you can't tuna fish. ( Tom Robbins, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues. )

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

To be honest, I've never tried them - does not appeal in the slightest I have to say. Had guinea pig in Ecuador though.

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Spoon- **snort***

Do people actually EAT jellied eels, C? I keep reading about this, and I have a hard time with the concept. "Eels in the Sink"; what a ghastly name for a tune. Of course, one of the reasons I opted out of the life science career path was that I got tired of doing things to squishy, slimy, gooey, stinky creatures that only wanted to be left alone to pursue their own interests. Who was I to interfere in their lives?

Re: in tune / or / out of tune

Pie & mash and eel shops still exist all over London, usually in working class areas. Manze's in the picture is just a few miles away from me in Peckham:
