Lewis Family

A friend who used to attend a weekly session in Galway with the Lewis Family in 1976-77, just gave me a cassette of their 1978 Tara label recording "Weeds in the Garden." It's a wonderful recording, and I was especially enchanted with Patsy Lewis' great concertina playing (and mind you, she and her brother Liam were just teenagers at the time!). I wondered if anyone here knew what the Lewis' are doing these days. I know that Liam has been active performing and recording -- a great fiddle player -- but what about the rest of the family? The last update on this site was from 2004. Any chance that the Lewis Family will record again as an ensemble? Or that this fine album will be re-released?

Re: Lewis Family

i'm a concertina apprentice who is with you alec about patsy lewis' playing.....i would love to know if she still plays anywhere, and where... i thought i saw an archived thread somewhere mentioning kilfenora or crusheen or.....? i'm also a big liam lewis fan....do you have the other lewis recording? it's a shorter and odd entry by a french label, perhaps a french radio? it's something like music of connemara, with no musicians named, but i'm pretty sure it's all the lewises.....

Re: Lewis Family

The Lewis family moved to Clare a few years ago, Liam lives in Inagh & plays around Ennis. He recorded with the Bowhouse Quintet & is featured on Breda Keville's latest cd.Patsy & Breda play regular sessions around the Crusheen area. They have no plans to record again at the moment.
