I heard this tune on a Green Linnet compilation. It's called 'Risipiti', and other than that I know nothing about it. It's on The House Band's album 'October Song': http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/1049
I'd love to find out which tradition it hails from, or who composed it, so if anyone has the album, or knows something about the tune and can tell me about it, I'd be grateful.
Risipiti is somewhere in Romania, as far as I can see on the Net (it's a place where property is being advertised). I know no more than that, or anything about the tune.
I think this is one of those "meaning of life" questions, we can only speculate. I like it too and one of these days i will take the time to learn it from the cd.
Nori risipiţi. Maxim 53° F. / 12° C. Vânt light. luni noaptea Cer senin. ... Nori risipiţi. Maxim 51° F. / 11° C. Vânt VSV 8 mph. / 14 km/h. marţi noaptea
One of the most impressive fiddle players I ever heard was a Romanian gypsy who was busking in Antwerp, playing Romanian and Hungarian tunes on an ancient viol-trumpet (a horrible instrument with basically a gramophone amplification system built onto a body-less violin). After listening to him for a while, we got talking, and I had a go on the viol-trumpet; for about four seconds, and could hardly get anything but the most awful scratchy sound out of it. The strings were rusty, there was hardly any hair left on the bow, and no rosin, and the fingerboard was entirely warped and finger-pocked, yet this guy was able to coax the most unbelievable music out of this thing. I remember thinking that I would love to hear him play a nice fiddle.
Anyway, it's a Romanian tune, then. Or it was once, maybe. Marvellous.
So, does anyone know where I can look for traditional Romanian fiddle tunes to listen to?
A tune called 'Risipiti': where's it from?
