West Country learner?- interested in playing without the dots?
West Country learner?- interested in playing without the dots?
Any improver tune players out there in Somerset/Devon/Dorset/Avon interested in getting together regularly to play Irish pieces from memory?
The idea would be to play (mostly) Irish tunes learnt beforehand, somewhere around half speed, and most importantly, *without using the dots while playing*. No great pretentions, just to learn from each other, have fun and improve.
I am a middle-aged (ish!), beginner/post-beginner fiddle player, based near Taunton, and was thinking of home-based meetings, possibly rotating the venue to even up travelling.
Please send me an e-mail if you are interested, and hopefully we can get a small group together and work out the logistics.
Look forward to hearing from you.
P-K
P.S. Any advice from people who've done similar things elsewhere would be very welcome
Re: West Country learner?- interested in playing without the dots?
I hope P-K that you are getting heaps of email replies off the auld yellaboard. If I weren't so far away, I'd be signin' up, but the logistics are not work outable. I put an ad in the paper once without a single taker. But that was here in the backwoods, and I hope you are heaps doing better than I did. Good on you for giving it a try. Cheers

Ah, Jan, if only Alice weren't so far- having you along would be just the ticket. On the replies front though, nope, not many yet- well, one to be precise- (thanks, Jon!).
I guess people are either too damn good or too busy, or have already found a group- or maybe they've just read some of my posts
The dream is still to find a whistle player, a concertina player, another fiddler, a banjo/guitar/zouk/mando player- then I think we'd be motoring.
It's step into the unknown, but I'm a bit of an optimist- and if you don't try things...

Hi Pete,
That's brilliant.
I'll send you a PM by the end of the week to let you know how things are shaping.
