Hibbs Fighting "59"

Hibbs Fighting "59"

The tune, Fighting "59", by the late Harry Hibbs is listed as traditional on the cd (The very best of Harry Hibbs-Volume One) info. It states that it was composed during WW I for the 59th regiment of the Irish Army.
I can find out little else about this tune.
Wondering if anybody knows of others who have recorded this tune or if the tune exists under other names or if you play it would consider submitting it???
Thnx.

Re: Hibbs Fighting "59"

It might be a typo, refierrring instead to the Fighting 69th, an Irish-American brigade that dates back to the American Civil War.

Perhaps if you search under that name you'll find more info.

The Fighting 69? It's a position in the Karma Sutra for a couple who no longer see eye to eye.

Re: Hibbs Fighting "59"

....(lol) ...well, actually the Fighting 59 or Fighting 59th is not a typo re: the Fighting 69th Irish-American brigade, as deserving as that brigade may be of one, but it IS indeed a traditional tune, and apparently a rather obscure one at that, referring to the 59th Division of the Royal Irish Army:

I did manage to find out that another very talented musician from Cape Breton named Pius MacIsaac who's '03 cd Music From The Heart has it in a set; Cock O' the North/Fighting 59th/Road to the Isles.
Some progress anyway....

Re: Hibbs Fighting "59"

Wow. To confuse things (or me, at least) a bit, the Dropkick Murphys DO have a song about the 69th, apparently:

It seems someone is trying to fulfill your wish, but there are at the moment lots of problems with the transcription, odd ABCs, but worse are missing notes and a missing bar... Hopefully it will get sorted before the 'Sheetmusic' wand passes over it to convert it to dots... My fingers are crossed... :-/
