I know that Jeremy has started to frown on this activity but i promise that this will be the first and last time that i ever do it!
Could somebody, with an ear better than mine, please tell me what the second tune in this set of jigs is, the one after the fiddler tells the guitar player "E".
Im sure ye'll enjoy this vid anyway, its some good stuff!
Haven't got a clue what the tune is but it's familiar, I can actually play it, so I guess I have heard it somewhere before ( either that or my playing by ear has improved tremendously!).
I enjoyed it anyway and look forward to finding out its name and provenance (if that's the right word).
I watched the clip with the sound off (yes, I know) and it occurred to me if it would be possible to guess the tune from watching the players' fingers? It also reminded me of a musical quiz show that used to be on the BBC years ago where someone played a silent piano and the contestants had to guess the tune. Piano seemed a lot easier to guess than fiddle. Anyone remember this?
Yes - They used to give you a clue and one week I guessed the piece before they actually started playing - but that was pure fluke and about the only time I scored in the dummy keyboard round!!
Was it called Face the Music?
Can you imagine anything like that being on the telly now?
It would have to be 'Celebrity Face The Music', and involve very little music, but lots of product.
All I know about the 2nd jig is that it's on the first Barry Kerr CD, but they're playing the first tune wrong--the 'A' part is from The Geese in the Bog and the 'B' part is from another jig whose name I don't know.
Actually, the 'B' part from the first time is from Liam O'Connors. Incidentally, they played it right for the last tune. I think the B minor tune in the middle is Inver Bank.

Well spotted, Devin. The first tune is a bit of a hybrid. The B-part is actually neither one nor the other - a mixture if the two. The tune they are mixing it up with is Headwood Crossing (another lovely tune) http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/4047 , which they play as the third tune in the set. No wonder they got them confused, they're so similar.
Who are the players? Nice fiddle playing - I can't hear much of the flute.
First and last time, i promise!

Re: First and last time, i promise!
It was Face the music presented by Joseph Cooper. he used to do tunes in the style of particular composers as well and you had to guess the composer.

Re: First and last time, i promise!
I thought the turn of the third tune was a bit like the second part of the Lark in the morning - overall a bit of a mish mash.
