Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

Its ok, I just like to plan well in advance. The wedding is 2 years away :) I'm from quite a musical family and hoping to have their participation at the wedding, just figuring out what I want them all to learn!

Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

The Wedding Gift by Rawlin's Cross. It's actually a Newfoundland tune, but nobody'd know the difference. :P Good luck with your wedding.

Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

There are some lovely wedding marches in the Shetland tradition:

The Bride's a Bonnie Wee Thing http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2775
The Unst Bridal March http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/5108

You could do worse than searching the tunes database for words like 'wedding', 'bride', 'bridal' etc. - it'll come up with enough tunes for an entire day's set.

At the risk of being considered inappropriately bawdy, you might like to include this one, under one of it's more 'polite' titles, The Bridegroom's Favourite http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/879
(I'm astonished at some of the alternative titles that have squeezed through the indecency filter).

Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

"The Bridegroom's Favourite"

That should have been 'The Bridegroom's Delight'.

Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

Carolan type music is good choice for ceremony/meal etc. as it appeals to wider group of people in setting like this. There's loads of them like Tabhair dom de lamh, Fanny Power, Eleanor Plunkett, Carolan's Welcome, Carolan's Dream aka Molly Halpin, Ghaoth Aneas, Planxty Irwin, Si Bheag Si Mhor, Clergy's Lamentation, Lark in Clear Air. Not all Carolan tunes but of that type.
For de disco dancing - well I suppose a few lively polkas and reels would be in order (in small doses) to suit those guests who are this way inclined!
Mind you, 2 years is a long time ................ many a slip betwixt cup & lip. Let's hope not!!

http://thesession.org/tunes/display/6990 - written by Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy for their wedding guests. I imagine it's really difficult to play, mind.

Re: Wedding Music Suggestions needed!!

I'm not married, but I'd have to draw the line at bodhran players!
Love will you marry me - that's a tune/song not a proposal. Johnny Moynihan sang it on an old De Dannan album.
