French student working on irish fiddle styles, looking for David LYTH Bowing styles vol 1, and needs to meet or speak with irish fiddler, in Ireland between 19 april & 10 may!!!!!
Hy!
First, excuse my so bad english!!!
I'm in Master 2 of ethnomusicology at Nice, and have already worked on differences between fiddle and violin, and have talked about Frankie GAVIN. Now, I have to study fiddle styles and had the luck of meeting irish musicians in Paris for the St Patrick's day.
I'm looking for this first volume of David LYTH, and really need help to meet musicians there in Ireland. If someone has contacts, or wants to tell me about the regional styles, or eared that a study, an article, a book (??) has been written, please tell me!!!!
It looks like a "serious" study, and should be, but I'm more interested by the way the musicians live this world of traditional music, how they are more or less accepted by the society, how this fantastic traditions still are vivid and refreshing every day.
I'm a violist and violonist too, and my granny is irish (from Lisnaskea), I play her violin made in Belfast (1911) and am very admirative of the fiddle tradition of Ireland, and I'd like to propage this incredible knowledge in France (we've ONE book about irish music in french.........and everyone here is addicted with this music!).
So, thank you for all the attention you've already given for reading this long, long send!!!!!
I precise that I've already seen the precedent discussions talking about styles!!!!

Sorry, I'm a little late!!
Thank you so much, Diamondo, I'll certainly go to the Itma and hope I can meet you.
To Saint, I'll arrive in Cork for the 19 april, and return in France for the 10 may. I've seen that there was an event in Gurteen the first days of may, and will try to be there! I would have like to study the Clare area, and have already met musicians, but I'd like to compares different styles. I've seen that the Donegal had been and is very studied, and that historically the Sligo style is well known. That's the reason why I'm interested in this Clare zone, which has been studied by Jos Koning, but on which I haven't found too much documents (I'm talking about fiddle especially). Please, if I'm wrong, tell me!!
I've noticed too, that this Clare style was a little suject of some divergences, and I'm curious of it.
Concretly, I hope to go near and at Cork, Ennis, Limerick, Gurteen and Dublin.
But I have a part of my family in Lisnaskea (Fermanagh) and in Belfast. So if you've contacts there, I could go!
Thank you!

Wh don't you try and contact Dave Lyth himself. He's alive and well and living in Lancaster, England. He might be contactable via the University of Lancashire, Department of Theoretical Physics. Best of luck.

Thank you so much, Steve!
To tell you the truth, I had found his name and contact on internet, but I though (stupid girl!) that it was another professor with the same name!!!!!!! But I have now a contact in France, and this man has told me that it was a scientific work (with sound analysis, etc.) so I should have remember that this conjonction was possible...
Sadly, I'm too too tired today, have to take my airplane tomorow, so I'll take time in may to try to contact him. Thank you another time!
