A friend of mine is a piano accordion player who is interested in getting a Saltarelle Clifden, because the sound may be better suited for ITM than a tradition musette tuned PA.
There have been some discussions as to the quality of some of the Saltarelle boxes.
Does anyone have any information on the quality of the Saltarelle Clifden?
I have heard them a few times, great sound, and the players I've talked to seemed to love them too. I remember a Welsh player at the Lorient Celtic music festival a few years back who brought down the house playing his Clifden.
I'd love to get one of these, but I don't think there's anyone in Australia that sells them. And the price is bad enough in Euros, never mind Aussie dollars
Certainly a couple of the well known professionals play them.
-Check Theo Gibb's comments re setting up a new Clifden on melodeon.net under a recent thread titled "New Saltarelles..". He details a QC problem encountered with one, and mentions tuning issues in passing. Another retailer I spoke with said Salts may arrive with flat basses which need correcting prior to sending out.
-My Salt Nuage arrived with squeaky keys so "Blue Danube" sounded "Dah Dah Dah Dah Dahh Squeak Squeak, Squeak Squeak" quite loudly and so on. Its been addressed successfully since, but should not have been an issue had factory and shop QC been what it should be. Its not a Clifden issue AFAIK but points to some sloppy QC from Saltarelle.
And you are not limited to that particular model if you want to avoid a musette sound. Any 2-voice (or three voice) PA can be tuned dry. And then you can avoid looking at all that plastic artificial wood on the Clifden. The look of them always reminds me of some 1970s kitchen furniture.
