could anyone suggest and possibly send me a link for a decent 6/8 march? i'm looking for something other than the traditional Bugle Horn etc ... thanks a lot any help would be much appreciated as i need a tune or two for my ceilidh band
Leslie's March is pretty popular around here. Everybody steals the Solas set and plays it with the Humours of Whiskey. (Chieftans recorded it as "March Of Oscar And Malvina", apparently).
Farewell To The Creeks, Blue Bonnets Over The Border - two 4-part dotted Scottish pipe marches, in the Tunes database here. Lots more of them - Nigel Gatherer's website probably has some.
No need for three legs, just one step per beat, with three eighth notes per beat instead of two (trust me, I marched a lot in the early days of my military career).
If you're willing to veer waay outside the realm of the traditional, you can't do better than Nelson Mandela's Welcome to the City of Glasgow, composed, I think, by Blair Douglas:
Look in the 'Ceol na Fidhle: Highland Tunes for the Fiddle' books, published by Taigh na Teud and compiled by Christine Martin. I like lots of them: 'The Bonawe Highlanders', 'Murdo Mackenzie of Torridon', 'The Athole Highlanders', 'Pipe Major Donald McLean of Lewis', 'Kirkwall Bay', 'The McNeils of Ugadale' etc...

Re: 6/8 marches
You need three legs to march to those.
This is probably where a kilt comes in handy....

"Dovecot Park" is a cracker. I'll see if it's on the site already...
No it isn't, so I'll maybe post it. Keep an eye out in the tunes section...

Douglas has an excellent recording of it, on the album _Brave Hearts_. Bagpipes and South African chanting - multiculturalism at its best.

I like McAllistrum's:

I prefer the setting on the Chieftan's Celtic Harp album though.

Re: 6/8 marches
I learned O'Sullivan's March from a Chieftains recording, along with An Sean Duine. I play Saddle the Pony to follow, in the same rhythm.
