Go see Lunasa live!

Go see Lunasa live!

Drove through a snow storm (blizzard?) in Vermont last night to see Lunasa. What a fantastic concert! Wish I could bottle the energy in the concert hall ( at one point Kevin Crawford was standing on his chair!) Individually they are all such good musicians which showed both in the group work and their solos. There are only a few more dates in this US tour so catch them if they will be appearing near you. In one month I've seen Danu and Lunasa in Vermont. Does life get much better?

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

No ceoltoirbeth, that's about as good as it gets, apart from snow that is! Two outstanding bands. I saw Lunasa play to a tiny audience (less than 20, due to advertising cock-up) and give an incredible performance. As for Danu, theyre the proof that all the best music does'nt come from the west coast.

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

Why do you want to know, Button? Planning to do a bit of stalking? ;>}

I don't know about the others, but the last time I saw them play, Crawford gave Vallelly a ration of sh*t for buying a house in zee South of France.... I mean, how lah-di-dah can you get?

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

saw Lunasa live at Port Fairy last month. probably seen them 6-7 times since they first toured down here in the mid-late nineties. Nvere cease to amaze me - level of musicianship, arrangementsand supreme confidence. works a charm on all audiences and their recordings are also works of art. modern wonders of the genre!

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

When I saw them with my GF last year, I appreciated the fact that they came out and mingled with the crowd afterwards - very friendly people. Ya, I know it's probably to milk the CD sales a good bit, but they are very approachable friendly people too.

Although for sheer performance awesomeness, I haven't seen better than Altan.

Kevin Crawford needs to put out a bodhran album.

No, seriously!

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

It’s taken me a while to start listening to Lunasa. Only got the first album & Redwood recently. I have been to a few sessions and every time I have enquired about a tune that I really enjoyed the reply has been “it’s a Lunasa tune” That has happened three times now for three different tunes. So have started listening to them a bit more. They are playing just a couple of miles from where I live in May. The Lakeside Pavilion – Notts
So I have already got a ticket (front row seat) and am starting to get quite exited about it. Do they play “250 to Vigo” & “The Last Pint” in their current set?
At least my journey to the gig will not be as difficult as yours was “ceoltoirbeth “
Thanks for the post

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

Lunasa appeared in Randolph,VT on April 4th. I do recall them playing The Last Pint set. They also played a set from one of their 1st CD's with Trevor Hutchinson using a bow on the bass and making the most unusual sounds I've ever heard from a string instrument!

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

In my opinion It would be a toss-up between Lúnasa and Danú for the best trad group currently on the scene. I understand that Kevin Crawford is back once again living in County Clare.

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

I saw them in Reston a few weeks ago and they were excellent as usual. They do tend to be a bit jazzy, but then they play a straight trad set and all is forgiven.

Hell of a tour schedule they have this year, since they went Ireland to Australia to Alaska to Virginia, and then were headed to Florida and apparently to Vermont after that. At least it gives Kevin plenty of material to talk about!

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

on zee south of france front, a musician from ireland told me that it is an uncomfortable issue that many are preferring to vacation and i guess buy vacation or second residences in zee south of france, zee south of spain and other scenic, sunny non-ireland EU spots such as zee tres charmant tocane, etc., because zey are so much cheaper than zee olde sod. fascinating.

Re: Go see Lunasa live!

I saw them at the Boulder Theatre, with one of my friends from my dance school. Of course, with the setup of the place, there was space for us to dance behind all the seats. I swear Sean saw us. :P Even if he didn't, it was still uberfun.

I still can't believe I got to dance to Dr. Gilbert's. ;)
