Cheap Instruments

Cheap Instruments

Ive been told that its a worthwhile investment to buy a cheapo flight to Italy and purchase a Castignari from the factory. Does anyone know if this is true or not. Apparently savings of upto 30% can be made! This would more than make up for the cost of the flight and hotel as well as getting some much wanted and missed sunshine.

Re: Cheap Instruments

Sounds like a plan.
One of the most pointless exercises in life is travelling somewhere without anything specific to do when one gets there.
Like all those Antipodeans that seemingly spend there entire life "travelling" and getting nowhere.
In the past fifteen years I've never gone anywhere unless there's a gig at the other end (or to visit my son but that always involves music anyway!).
Pointless travel is probably epitomised by the hoards of sheep that go on beach holidays every year just because it's what "you" do.
So seeing a bit of Italia and picking up a relatively cheap box sounds like a good'un!

Re: Cheap Instruments

Depends where you live. If you live in Fiji or Tierra del Fuego, the savings would be minimal - probably into negative numbers.

Re: Cheap Instruments

One assumes everybody lives in London!

Re: Cheap Instruments

Assuming the factory has the kind of box you want in stock. I would check before boarding the plane.

"One assumes everybody lives in London!"

I used to, when I lived in London. Now that I live in the middle of nowhere, I don't rule out the possibility that others might.

Re: Cheap Instruments

Well, I live in London (UK ).
You know, Max, there are times when one has to balance the effects of ones hobbies on the environment against the urge to own the best instrument in your price range. I wouldn't encourage this all the time but for once I would say to pusmepullyou "Go, and enjoy".And give our regards to Doctor Dolittle.
On the other hand, my friends who jet halfway round the world twice a year to visit strange and exotic locations are to be deplored.

Re: Cheap Instruments

I've heard of people doing this to get cheap cars. go for it - if nothing else you'll be able to boast that you've been to the factory where your instrument was made.

And of course there's the Italian women ;-)

Re: Cheap Instruments

depends on where you live. If you are from a euro currency country than you may get a good deal.

If you are from the US, 1. you will lose that 30% and then some on the cra**y exchange rate. 2. Going to Italy you will pay premium prices. Italy is one of the more popular destinations for American and it is only served by cr**py airlines who will charge you an arm and a leg to use the toilet on board the plane (if it works).

So for Americans not much of a buy.

Re: Cheap Instruments

sorry to be Cynical. I love Ireland and traveling overseas. The american airlines (particularly a very bad experience on US AIR) are the pits.

Re: Cheap Instruments

Could you fly to another European country, then buy a ticket to Italy?

Re: Cheap Instruments

I've been playing Castagnaris for more than 25 years... try first their site : www.castagnari.it (or goggle castagnari...), to have their actual prices... the thing I do : order the box I want, pay half on order, and then go to Recanati, where the factory is to fetch the instrument, and pay the other half : you get a very nice visit of the factory, Sandro and Massimo, the bosses, are great guys. then they show one of the best restaurant of the town. the region itself is beautiful, so you won't lose anything in the trip.
And you can order the keyboard you want (GC, or C#D, or BC...).
they do have a range of cheaper instrument, that play very well, with a nice sound.
Of course, that goes for Europe : if you're in London, I believe you can find low cost aircraft companies to Italy. the nearest city to Recanati is Ancona, then you can have Bologna. but maybe Rome would be okay, then you get a train to Recanati.
good luck, the trip to Italy's worth it anyway !
