I have been looking around at different flute makers in ireland, and a Martin Doyle flute has been recommended to me.
It seems quite nice to play, does not require a huge amount of air.
Interestingly there is no tuning slide.
Does anybody have any experience with Martin Doyle flutes? I would have thought the lack of a tuning slide would have been a bit of a problem when playing in sessions.
Re: Anybody any experience with a Martin Doyle flute?
Martin's basic flute has no tuning slide and is easy to play. There is still some adjustment possible as he makes the joint long enough to slide, but it is not as free to move as with a tuning slide. I have also seen flutes he has made complete with keys and tuning slide.

Re: Anybody any experience with a Martin Doyle flute?
Yes, no slide can be a problem, but I think Martin makes 'em with slides as well. His flutes are certainly good.

Harry.

Brian Finnegan plays a keyless D these days. Tried it a couple weeks ago and it's an awesome flute.
