To be fair to the guy it is a clip of him playing the bodhran - it is really his bodhran playing you are meant to be watching. There might be little variety in terms of tone but his rhythm is pretty solid.
You can also hear the tunes fine - the balance would not be right for a session but this is not a session and I can't imagine the Chieftains are going to start complaining that they couldn't hear each other playing because of the goat whacker!

can't hear the tune- this is a good example of a bad bodhran in a session- it drowns everything out!

It's hard to hear. The problem is youtube is a poor quality media source, and on top of that he is playing a recording and playing along with it.
