Noll,

Could you please forward this to all members. I wanted to pass on my comments for the discussion.

T-Shirt *******************************************************

On the T - Shirt design. Can we incorporate the Comhaltas design of the fiftieth year logo on the sleeve of the t-shirt? I think that would look cool. The t-shirt needs to be 100% cotton and pre shrunk quality. One color ink would hold the cost down. I will submit a design as a seperate email.

Irish Dance at the World Famous Rock and Bowl *****************

I spoke to the owner of the Rock and Bowl about having a ceilli at the Rock and Bowl upstairs. It has a great and flexible linoleum tile floor over wood and flexes with the music.

His schedule is set for the month of February. He is interested in the idea in March. He does not have a Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat available because on those dates he is guaranteed to get 250-400 people in the door. All of whom pay a cover and make many drink purchases. So he does not want to lose money on speculation.

I talked it over and he is willing to host the ceilli on March 9th, which is a Sunday. We could do the afternoon or the evening. This would tie in nicely with publicity relating to St. Patricks Day festivities. I know that Sunday nights are not great. But this is an exploratory event. If we did the Sunday afternoon we could invite dancers from Jackson, Baton Rouge and the coast.

What I envision is an event with a Master of Ceremonies or host. A
Crossroads Ceilli band of performers and then those performers who will play and do occasional individual spots. The host would explain the significance of the instrument to the audience. Some storytelling, songs between dancers and a poem or reading or two. The host would keep the evening moving and insure that the entertainment was lively and entertaining and spontaneous.

Then dances would be all types from set, to ceilli and the other types of dancing represented by the dancing schools in the area and the girls and boys in their finery.

The musicians would agree to play for free, could sell their CD’s and tapes at a table. Dance schools and us could put a table there with information. Everyone with something to push could put out a nice display at the information table.

No cover for the crowd. Bowling would be going on and we would invite the public to get up and join us. So we could give instructions in the back of the venue.

John would handle the publicity. It would be in the Gambit, Lagniape and the Times Picayune. It is a great tie in to the upcoming festivities.

If this works out John (the owner ) would agree to providing the
downstairs once a month for our ceilli. All he wants is a good crowd that would purchase drinks. He does not want to open the place up and have a bartender and have no sales of drink. That might be a problem. But the downstairs is a great venue and would bring in newcomers and enlarge the circle of dancers.

I told him that I would get back to him on January 25th with an answer. I will miss seeing you all but dance till you drop and have fun. Your pal--Keith

Re: Tentative plans for Ceili March 9, The World Famous Rock & Bowl, New Orleans, LA

Current Update:

The proposed Ceili on March 9th at the Rockin Bowl was discussed and it was felt that we should try for a different date.

We have the Dallas Irish Festival on the 1st, 2nd, Fat Tuesday on the 4th, Patrick O Dea set dance workshops on the 7th, 8th and possibly the 9th. The following weekend we have St Patrick’s Day on Monday 17th which means that the musicians may have gigs that weekend. It was thought that if we could change the date from the 9th we should have the Ceili at a less busy time, but if not we then we would go ahead with the 9th. Will let you know.
