Gentleman Soldier and what the heck is that instrument???
Gentleman Soldier and what the heck is that instrument???
Quick question:
The Dubliners' version of "Gentleman Soldier" starts with pipes stating a piece of the theme... then it's bridged to the vocal with some sort of strum-like percussion instrument... what the heck is that? It sounds almost like he's strumming the snares on the bottom of a drum... or some sort of crazy guiro-like thing... anyone know what I'm talking about?
Re: Gentleman Soldier and what the heck is that instrument???
The version on YouTube (or one of them) starts with what sounds like whistles at the start before the rat-tat-tat of what does sound like a snare drum - what makes you think it is not this? It might be a piece of paper put between the guitar or banjo strings to try and replicate the sound of a snare drum but it is probably just the drum.
Re: Gentleman Soldier and what the heck is that instrument???
well, it is definitely not a snare drum... on the version I'm referring to, it starts with pipes and then there is a definite strumming of something... when the words "rat a tat tat " come around, THAT is a drum... but in the intro it is something unusual
Re: Gentleman Soldier and what the heck is that instrument???
I heard It was a chimp rattling water pipes in the studio, but i couldn't be sure if thats true, One of my imaginary friends told me and lately I think he's being lying a lot, He's been hitting the drink!
