I play whistle a bit and am looking to add a low G and low A to use with songs in a group setting. I love the sound of the Generation Bb I have. Can anyone recomend a maker/brand of mid-priced of Low G or A whistles? Thanks
I highly recommend Reyburn whistles. Check out his website at http://www.reyburnwhistles.com. He sells a Low G for $150 and will custom-make the Low A for you. He's located in southern Oregon (US), and charges $10 for shipping/handling/insurance to US locations and $30 to Europe. He will customize the placement of the holes (i.e., offset or not) to fit your hands. Don't know how that works over long distance, but it was worth the 2 1/2 hour drive for me. I always get compliments on the tone quality of his whistles, and that's even from players much more skilled than I am.
Under a hundred is going to be hard. May I suggest Mack Hoover whistles here http://mackhooverwhistles.com/frame.htm they are under $100 and are pretty nice. There is also Susato and Dixon for under $100.
Dear Mr. Baloney, I didn't say I was good, just interested. Trios covering for quintets lead to some new responsibilities. I seem to recall you with a low D at one point. Take care- Mike
Msg me for instructions to create a tuning stick for any material - be sensible ie you cant make a low D, or A for that matter, from 1/2" stock!-
Agree about the Generation, I have been using these for decades and the quality has no equal IMHO. The Bb is very nice, I once had a brass Bb by Generation and it was very special.
-If you can find one, a used Water Weasel low G is very nice, the product of Glenn Schultz' (RIP) finicky tuning and production. They have very nice tone, a loud top of high octave and very large tone holes. They play reliably and are made of PVC pipe with a delrin or similar fipple. Sometimes Doc Jones has Water Weasels used here: http://irishflutestore.com/POFlutes.html

Re: Lower whistles Recomendation
I guess I don't know the market well. I'm looking to spend less than $100 USA. Not that I wouldn't love a Reyburn after checking out the site.

Hey Mike, I don't know much about whistles, but what about this:

And what's this about you playing whistle? I need a visual confirmation on this!
Later, O Brother of Baloney...
