Re: The Hounds Of Culann

I know Joey Doyle a little bit. A great flute player and piper too. Sean Garvey does spend some time in Drimnagh too at his work shop.

That's if they're the same guys!

Re: The Hounds Of Culann

Nothing like a bit of a plug, but isn't this the same band who got disqualified from the festival interceltique in lorient, twice for what's mildly put as bad behavior. For those of you who aren't Irish, the incident and damage it caused the reputation of the Irish contingency was even reported in an article in the Irish times - one of Irelands leading broadsheets as well as the local tabloids in Brittany, France. That’s the first of many.

Musically fairly good but there's more than music involved in this game. Trad that is, not the rock scene.

Apologies for the negativity but I’d hate to see behavior like this be encouraged in the traditional scheme. check it out. the info is all there.

Re: The Hounds Of Culann

there myspace intrigues me, they identify themselves as trad/trance. how does that work?

Re: The Hounds Of Culann

I *am* getting old.
1) "The next big thing on the trad scene.."
2) The myspace page with the improperly punctuated, wrongly spelt (How iconoclastic is that??!!) blurb that says nothing:
"...are a trad/folk band that hail from the dark 'n' smokey back alleys of the foggy dew. the hounds music is a wild, yet respectable, un-tameable, yet structured whirlwind" of blah blah blah blah blah.
3) The youtube clip that is out of date
4) The bodhran introduction...
5) Yes, the self-designation as "Folk / Trance"
It all seems so tedious, so uninteresting, so old hat. I've no idea if they are any good, and good luck to them for having a shot and so on, but with publicity material like that I'm not likely to find out much more about them.

Re: The Hounds Of Culann

ach martin, come on and give them a chance.....things do change ya know

"it all seems to tedious, so uninteresting, so old hat"...."the youtube clip that is out of date"......
why has trad got to be so serious all of a sudden. Let them enjoy themselves the way they want to, and play trad the way they want to play trad.

Re: The Hounds Of Culann

Sure. I think it was being told they are "the next big thing" that made me look for something a bit different.
And when I said "out of date clip" I was not talking about it's style - youtube says the clip is no longer there.
