Nashville Sessions?

Nashville Sessions?

Did all the required searching before posting and came up blank. Recently moved to Nashville and am looking to hook up with some Irish/Celtic players. House or pub session. Please, no too-cool-for-words, music-biz cruise and schmooz scenes(BTDT). Just folks who want to get together to sing and play. If one doesn't exist, how about starting one? Thank you in advance.

Re: Nashville Sessions?

Welshdude...I just moved from Gatlinburg in recent years. I sympathize completely.

I recommend that you look do what I did when I was new to TN--look for any local music clubs...like the local Caledonian Society or the local CCE. The Scottish groups always include irish players since they are so scattered--anything to get to play. Dig around online using searches on Scotish Society (alt. spellings Scottish Societies), St. Andrews Society (Societies), Caledonian Societies, CCE

CCE Ireland -- http://www.comhaltas.com/index.htm
CCE North America -- pending site www.comhaltas.org

I can give you two contacts who might put you on the right track: Betsy Hooper [bhooper@usit.net]

Rick Hall [1rkhall@comcast.net]

And here are two I found online (dunno if they are current or of the type you describe):

Tennessee sessions.

The two sessions I found were off thesessioneer.com. Let us know about any sessions you find and attend. If you're ever in the Knoxville area, give Rick and Betsy a call. The sessions are great!

Re: Nashville Sessions?

Welshdude, what does 'music-biz cruise and schmooz' mean?

# Posted on January 17th 2003 by bb

Re: Nashville Sessions?

Of course, "music biz" is music business. When you "cruise and schmooz", you make the rounds to see people who are the "in" crowd of whatever you're involved in in order to win favor in business or society. "Schmoozing" means "kissing up" to people to win them over, impress them, make them like you, or notice you. It usually refers to fake affection and admiration.

Re: Nashville Sessions?

Greetings, the Davis Kidd Booksellers session is currently active. The Bean Central is not active (in fact it is the same as the Davis Kidd... primarily a change in venue.)

There is a slow session in Nashville on 1st and 3rd Mondays of the Month at the Cohn Adult center. (On Park Avenue just down from 46th Avenue.

Grrr... I need to think before I post

I meant to add that the Davis Kidd session in February will not be at the Davis Kidd bookstore, rather it will be at the Maxwell House hotel following the saturday Feis competitions.

Re: Nashville Sessions?

I've posted these changes to the sessions section, and added the Cohn slow sessions. These types of posts should go there instead of here at the discussion board, I think.

A1dan, do you have the additional info. on the Cohn session...like the contact person, a phone, an email? If you do, please add them into the session listings. I put everything you gave us so far so you'll just have to add the extras for us.

If you've attended any of the Nashville sessions, please post your comments on them in the session section. I'm sure others would like to hear what the sessions are like.

Also, please post a new discussion thread announcing this Feis competition on Saturday along with the needed info. for folks to find it. Those are great events to attend and find ITM musicians.
