I now have a social life

I now have a social life

I wish to thank one and all for the friendship and comraderie of music, 8 months ago I decided to get off my chuff and go play with other people, I decided I wasnt helping myself by playing on my own (self destructively I might add). As a direct result of going to a session, my playing has improved exponentially, I got to know the name of the guy I sat beside in the train for 4 years before he disappeared. I learnt that there are some terrible genre snobs who through their own snobbery make themselves miserable. I now have the confidence to invite myself and husband to dinner, I now have the confiedence to sing and play in public. I have learnt that people actually like me for who I am and not what they can take from me. Most of all I have found other people who love music for music, not for the pretentious elitism that comes with it sometimes.

Thank you.

Oh yeah! Nicely put Joze.
If you dont love the music for the music your not worth a snot in my opinion.

Well put, savage! As a bumper sticker from Fiddler Magazine so eloquently put it: So many tunes, so little time (cliche, yes, but why else would anyone play a whistle at the traffic lights?)

Re: I now have a social life

Getting back to playing out a lot after a 20 year hiatus saved me. I always played and had people over now and then, or played alone, but the social apsect of the sessions and just getting around to the music is the best thing. I moved out to the sticks, did the family/kid thing and it was very difficult to go anywhere...well I could get to NYC, it was the coming back part that was so rough, an hour and a half on the road late at night. Now we have lots of music around NJ, much closer thankfully.

It's great to get out, you can have hundreds of friends if you go to a lot of places.... since coming back out, I ran out of the 100 speed dials on the phone, up to about 140 friends stored in the cell, unbelievable. Mostly music people!

Re: I now have a social life

It's ruined my social life.
I used to go to the pub at 5 o'clock on a Friday, to get rat-arsed p!ssed with the lads, or go to football, then the pub again then a disco, try and pick up a burd, then the same again the whole weekend and through the week. Be sick in the toilet. Smoke weed, drop acid, go clubbing. Go for curries and talk about football and get into fights, then more beers with the lads, be sick again. Get chased out of squats, do one night lie-ins in Harlesden nick. They were all great guys, mostly dead, on anti-psychotic medication or in jail now though. What a great lively social life I had. Now all I do is practice tunes and meet up with people at sessions to play tunes, run races, and I don't even drink now.

Re: I now have a social life

You've been reading too much Irvine Welsh...or was all that for real?!
