softwar to slow down music

softwar to slow down music

Does anyone know any computer software (free if possible!) to slow music down to half speed but retain pitch?

Thanks

Re: softwar to slow down music

Windows media player will do it, but I prefer Transcribe! (the exclamation point is part of the name - I'm not that excited about it :-) ). It lets you slow down to any speed and highlight sections to replay, loop etc. I find it very easy to use. It's a shareware program with a free trial download I think.

I think Cool Edit works well, but I'm not sure how much it costs.

Re: softwar to slow down music

Windows Media is very easy, just press ctrl +shift+ S for slow,
then ctrl+shift+N for normal.
If you want to vary more than this use the Play Speed Settings under enhancements under View. Speed can be altered to click at .5, .6 .7 etc or in between eg .775.

Amazing slow downer...Audacity....Quicktime 7....Windows Media Player....Winamp.....Cool edit....There's loads of them. Depends what sort of computer you use, and what OS you're running.
Have a search through previous threads on this site to find out loads more...this question has been asked countless times, and there's a ton of information on different programs. All from the search box on the home page!

Re: softwar to slow down music

I'd recommend Transcribe too.
As far as I'm concerned, it's the perfect program for the job, with loads of handy features. Much better than Amazing Slow Downer, or any of the above mentioned audio programs for transcribing tunes.

Re: software to slow down music

Cool Edit certainly does the job, but that excellent application was bought by Adobe a while ago and in its new guise costs a bomb.

You may be able to find a remaindered copy of Cool Edit if you hunt around. However, a problem may arise when the application tells you to register with Syntrillium (the former owner) to get your registration code to run the program - but Syntrillium won't be around ... Catch 22 comes to mind.

Re: softwar to slow down music

Try BestPractice http://www.xs4all.nl/~mp2004/bp/
I find it really does the job - and it's freeware (voluntary donations)

Re: softwar to slow down music

I use Transcribe! and it's great; well worth the investment. I've used it for several years, and the periodic upgrades have all been free after the initial purchase. The latest version, which I haven't installed yet, will attempt to guess particular notes or chords.

Windows Media Player will slow down tunes, but only on MP3 files -- not on WAV files.

Re: softwar to slow down music

Just had a go with BestPractice. It has an interface very similar to Amazing Slow Downer and works ok, although I found the quality of the sound when slowed down to be quite poor. It had this kind of oscillating, phasing in-and-out sound.

Certainly not a patch on Transcribe, but considering it's free, then one can't grumble.

Re: softwar to slow down music

I am a prfoessional musician, I have had many transcriptions published and stick by the Amazing Slow Downer. I have used it since version 1.0 and stand by it and Rolf it's developer. If you're looking for "free" stuff, get a life. Spend the minimum $$ on great software that'll last you a lifetime with free updates. There's your "free"...

:-)

And I'm not even professional like you.

Windows Media Player is fine, and its free.

Re: softwar to slow down music

I use Winamp 5.3 with the old Chronotron II plug-in. The newer versions of Chronotron require registration (and paying), but the old version does not. I use MP3's for all of my music, and Winamp is my main player, so the Chronotron plug-in makes it so I don't need to switch players. BTW Chronotron also lets you vary the pitch indpendent of the speed.

Re: softwar to slow down music

The same person that sells "slow downer" also offers a free plug-in for winamp (which is also free). You can adjust both pitch and tempo. It works with MP3s, wav files, etc, but not with CDs. If you want to do something from CD you will need to copy it to a file first.

Re: softwar to slow down music

I found a new guitar speed trainer called mTrax by www.TerraSofta.com This one loads all of your music and doubles as a music player allowing you to slow down and loop any of your music, and as many sections per song as you want. This one rocks!
