so what's happening with the San Francisco tionol this weekend?
so what's happening with the San Francisco tionol this weekend?
Was at a session tonight in Long Beach, & heard there's a big par-tay this weekend in SF. Jack? Anyone? Was heading up there anyway & I have a place to stay, but would love to know if/where the cool shtuff is happening. Thanks!
Re: so what's happening with the San Francisco tionol this weekend?
Yezzzz... there's a BIG party all right on Friday night. It's rather like a local Fleadh really... or the closest thing we have to one anyway. Are you coming, Em? Where are you staying, in SF? The party's in Berkeley.
Re: so what's happening with the San Francisco tionol this weekend?
Hey Jack & Fel Well, if that party's in Berkeley, do you think it's kind of pointless to stay in SF on Friday night? Are we talking tunes til dawn kind of thing? If so, I think I'd like to try to stay in Berkeley on Friday night. Does the Piper's Club have a list of recommended accomodations? Is it worth staying on through Sunday? Jack, I'd love to see you again before heading to Baltimore!
Last night at the Auld Dubliner was Patty hosting with Brooke, that young kid who plays Shetland fiddle, Beth, Bella, me, Jeff, Michael (on bodhran) & a dulcimer player whose name I didn't catch. It was well-rounded & sort of rowdy, a packed pub but lots of fun! I played with Michael last Sunday at that house session in Orange, ducking out of the Super Bowl scene. He didn't mention the tionol, but was probably under the impression I was leaving, which I was. ;)

The party in Berkeley is a party-till-dawn sort of affair, and it might make sense to stay in Berkeley. The concert is in Berkeley as well, and it appears that everything else is happening in the East Bays as well. (Maybe they should call it the East Bay Piper’s Club?) They explain most of it on their website, but to get details beyond that you have to register I think. I'm not in the club myself, but I always go to the Friday night party. A band that includes the piper (who’s the local president I think) hosts the Sunday session at the Plough. But that session (during the Tionol) is usually too big for what I enjoy, so I might stay in. Being that I don’t play pipes I won’t be at any of the workshops and such, and because of the concert on Saturday I doubt there will be any organized sessions that night. I usually hear about and decide at the Friday night party what extra curricular activities I might participate in.

I almost made it to Tom's on SB Sunday but brain fade and lack of time didn't make it happen. Still need to pm so I can send you directions. I'm staying in Berkeley and the party is in Rockridge
Re: so what's happening with the San Francisco tionol this weekend?
I am planning on being there also. Not sure if I should take the Egan or the Coyne set though? The Coyne's are working well but the Egan's make such a statement, you know?
Emily, I believe in my advanced years and wisdom that you should attend at all costs. You only get one bite out of this cherry called life and your looking pretty hungry right now.
Until next thime this is Eulic McGee bidding you all a Jew.

I don't think the pipers willl be doing any stripping, Em. All though Peter has been known to take his shirt off and do crazy dancing around his dining room if the pitch gets high enough. But I've never seen it happen at a piper's tionol, so you're out of luck I'm afraid.

Ha! I read that last URL as I was skimming over the thread, thought it said something about a stripper's club... heh
Have fun Emily!
