I finally did it. Me with the terminal case of performance anxiety.
I had a little get together with two fiddlers. Played right along with them. Screwed up and didn't even die of embarassment.
Had a great time, now can't wait until our next get together.
I'm not posting this to brag but as encouragement to those who think they just can't play outside that room where no one can hear them. I was so nervous that while waiting for the other players to arrive I thought I'd be physically sick. I paced the room and my hands were shaking so bad I couldn't even practice while waiting. Once they arrived there was no turning back so I just picked up the fiddle and played. What a rush, I had sooooo much fun. You CAN do it.
Be proud of what you can do and enjoy it!
Mary
That's great Mary! That is an amazing feeling and I still get that way sometimes. There's no stopping you, but there's no turning back now either. You have gone through the threshold, past the point of no return. Keep it up!
Thank you Antikhntr for such a positive post. you have reminded me of both how stressful and how rewarding this music thing can be. This time next year. Carnegie Hall!
Way to go, Mary! I had a similar experience in December and I literally walked on clouds for DAYS. I almost rushed out and got myself a publicist and quit my day job, but then realized I've only been playing for 3 months and maybe should get a few more tunes together first....
Good for you! I used to think I couldn't speak in public, until it started being required as part of my job. By just bulling through the fear, and lots of practice, I have lost nearly all of my stage fright. (this probably relates to the recent thread on "talent")
Keep it up!
I don't think the adrenaline buzz ever fully goes away, but after a while you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about. Not that I'm knocking your achievement, for that's what it is, for which, well done and welcome to the club (as a fully paid up member, not an associate member.)
Well done. Its so great when yo9u finally acheive something you really want to do. I remember the first time i did a solo in a show, i was so scared but felt great when i succeeded.
It is great making music with other people. It is a big first step - that realisation that being good enough to play with others does not mean you have to be perfect (because nobody is). The kick works both ways so make sure you keep enhancing other musicians' lives.
I did it !!

More than all the technical discussions, bickering and details, this truly is what it is all about.
