I've become addicted to Paddy Faheys tunes and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good recordings which feature a lot of his tunes. Bear in mind I have the Kane Sisters, Breda Keville and Martin Hayes CD's which have Fahey tunes. Is there any other recordings which may be of interest?
Also does anyone know how to contact him, I know he lives in East Galway but I'd love to go meet him and hear him play. As far as I know he still plays, is that right?
I found a website that said that he often can be heard playing at The Hill pub in Kylebrack, along the road between Loughrea and Woodford. Knowing it was a longshot, I stopped in there one day in early January. I asked the bartender (Maeve Donnelly's cousin, by the way), who said that Fahy doesn't get out much these days.
That isn't a list, just one of his tunes.
I've heard of a recording of Paddy where he plays all of his compositions one by one. I think there's a book (by Karen Tweed?) with lots of 'em, with actual names for each (PF just calls them PF #17, #24, etc.).
The story has it he composed a lot in his head while working the land, using features of the land as inspiration/point of reference. At some point work was done on the farm by a digger and the features of the land changed. The tunes disappeared with them, he couldn't think of them.
All myth aside, there is a tape of his compositions made as a project for UCL. I had a hard time convincing the librarian give me a copy but got it eventually. There are quite a few recordings of Fahey (sometimes with Paddy Carty) playing. If you tap into the right source. You'll find his intonation is much further away from the equal tempered scale than for example that of the Kane sisters. Liam Lewis is probably truest to Fahey's music.
A couple months ago Claire Keville played some private recordings of Fahy himself playing his own compositions in her radio programme on request. She might do it again if you ask.
Hello Frisbee, I have a cd of Fahy playing with P. Carthy & Paddy Kelly in Moylans pub Loughrea between 1967-71 given to me by Liam Lewis' father John. Cathal McConnell's voice can be heard introducing some of the selections.Beautiful photo on the cover of Fahy & Carthy (both with a few drinks onboard) taken by Liam Lewis. Its mostly Fahy tunes. e-mail me if you want a copy.

Re: Paddy Fahey recordings
Why don't search for the fahy tunes at this site. You then get a list of all recordings wich include his tunes.

Fahey doesn't usually name his tunes.
The story has it he composed a lot in his head while working the land, using features of the land as inspiration/point of reference. At some point work was done on the farm by a digger and the features of the land changed. The tunes disappeared with them, he couldn't think of them.
