I don't know about anyone else who attends the Glasgow Celtic Connections Festival, but I find it so disappointing that there seem to be no sessions anywhere. Indeed the festival organisers seem determined to eliminate this possibility by having a ghastly venue for the festival club. Does anyone know if sessions do occur and where?
Re: The problem with Celtic Connections in Glasgow
Yes, and it's likely to happen at the time of night when the bar's only open to residents. I know the public have access to The Festival Club but they often discourage sessions in the foyer there...because of the noise disturbing the stage performances.
There is also the "House of Song" which, as the name suggests, ain't too good for tunes. Apart from that there's the bar area upstairs where you *might* get a tune but it doesn't usually happen until very late.
You'll get all the usual Glasgow sessions which can be very good and they are usually busier than normal. However, nothing extra happens which is very disappointing.
For various reasons, I can't manage through this year but I've heard most of the acts before or will do later on. So, I'm not missing much.

well the "ghastly" venue will be more.... its getting demolished in March in order for a new hotel to built. Will be 2 years until it finished so there'll be a new venue for the festival club next year.
By the way..... there was an amazing session (actually 2 amazing sessions) upstairs at the reception bar on sunday night.....
Re: The problem with Celtic Connections in Glasgow
thought it was brill friday night and sat night there was a whistle player trying to make an effort but no one joined in... the poor girl was trying to play while paddy keenan did his best ronnie o sullivan impression at the snooker table....
