Finished sorting through ye ol' string basket...I have the following to send to the first responders free of charge..if you feel like sending something ir return, that's fine, if not, that's ok, too...I'm offering these for folks to try a set or a string here and there without the pressure of laying out cash just to try something new or different..
Infeld Blue, 2 G's and an A...about 72 hours on them, but still have some life
Infeld Red 1 G and 1 A..about the same time as the blues
1 new, never used Helicore A
1 new never used Helicore E
1 new never used Obligato A
1 New Evah E (silver, not gold)
Aricores, A, D, and G..about 24 total hours playing on them
So Sunnybear, which strings are you favoring these days?
I have a set of Thomastik Visions on this month and so far I like them a lot--warmer than the Evah Pirazzis, very responsive, silky under the fingers, nice focused tone. I think I've lost a little volume, but not enough to worry me.
Just letting you know I haven't forgotten! I'm still working on the b part.. The a part I'm not completely satisfied with yet, but I'm workin'! D dorian, just to let ya know.. Reeeeeel!!!! Or maybe Jig.. It sounds good both ways.. we'll see..
I am using Eudoxas, with a Golden Spiral E. I prestretch them on another fiddle for a couple weeks, then change them out one at a time. Played a session on Sunday, and did not have to retune at all...if I am not using Eudoxas, I like Dominants with the silver D, and a Wondertone E. I did use the Jargar Forte E with the Dominants, but just recently had switched back to the Wondertone e.
I like the regular Visions, too, and they are on a second fiddle right now. I also like the Warchal Kerneols ok. I want to check out the new Larsen Tziganes.
Anyone try the new Pirastron Wondertone solos yet?
Eudoxas, though, definitely give me the sound I am after. They have a lot of punch, you can really dig in when you want and they respond to bow speed and pressure like no other string..well maybe except for Olives. They are warm and singing. I recommend them to anybody that is using an older fiddle. Gut strings don't seem to do as well on newer fiddles, for some reason.
As a non-fiddler, I find this thread hilarious. I feel I've fallen through a rift in the space-time continuum and entered a strange new world. Thank you for brightening my day (yes, I know how sad this makes me sound).
Know how you feel Len. Completely unrelated to ITM... I just googled social clubs in Canberra and discovered that the group with the largest online membership of one community site is the Canberra Witches with 143 members, and that there are 12 strange souls who practice contortionism who meet up regularly...and they had photo's to prove it! Haven't stopped sniggering since! Makes ITM and fiddling look tame and so very sane!

thanks, Armand..

Will, what E string do you like with the Visions?

Re: more strings to freecycle
So far I'm just using the Vision e that came with the set. It's sweet, but lack punch. Still, the tone has held up better than most strings.
One thing I like about the Visions is that they settled in very quickly (2 to 3 days), and they're very stable--not much tuning to do.
