Jazzy guitar

Jazzy guitar

Bobby Gardiner's 50's LP Old Country Dances from Ireland arrived today; actually it's the rather more grandiose Bobby Gardiner and His IRISH Orchestra, big words for Bobby, guitar, and drummer. Somebody supplies a few Clare Shouts on one track, too.
Anyway I notice that on various 50's trad records like this one and Jackie Roche's and Winston Fitzgerald's that there was this very attractive mellow jazzy guitar playing, a rather nice change from the norm. The chief thing I like about is its nigh-inaudibility at times. Doesn't strive for attention. Might make a nice role model for an intrepid strummer. Don't know how it rates on the "authenticity" or "appropriateness" monitors.
You can hear Winston and his axeman (maybe with piano too) at the Juneberry78's site, in the Cape Breton section. Good luck finding the records yourself! Paul Cranford has a Winston CD, too.

Re: Jazzy guitar

You should probably look "nigh" up in your dictionary.
