I'm on YouTube! Advice! Critics come here!

I'm on YouTube! Advice! Critics come here!

I decided to play around with my new laptop and recorded a tune... Then I decided to record it again... and then again. Each one is played differently as far as using a shoulder rest goes and holding my fiddle.. Please do tell me what you think.. whether I should use the shoulder rest or not, bowing.. I'm aware my tempo may be a bit off... I usually double tap but I'm afraid of bothering my neighbors below me in my new apartment so yeah =P

Also sorry about the volume!! I'm new to this so I have no idea how to work that part... Ummm.. I'm using iMovieHD if that's any help.. then I use "iSight". Anyone use any other program? Yay for my Mac OS X. It's Love. It really is.

---

So first time.. just playing around, randomly decided to take off my shoulder rest..

Shoulder rest lacknes again, new with an intro! Or "intro"?!

I put the shoulder rest back on. I think I like it beter. It sounds less harsh to my ears really:

And because you all were soldiers and put up with the same freakin' tune played in 3 different videos, I recorded Hunter's House by the man. Ed Reavy. Beautiful tune, it really is.. I played this at my audition yesterday minus that little goof towards the end in the b part there.. =P

Enjoy! Please don't be nice to me. Well I mean you can, but don’t say something like “oh good job!!” I’d really like to know what I can improve upon!!! If you need to say something about my playing do say it... as long as it's helpful =]

Cheers,
Armand

I'll let the expert fiddlers here tell you about your playing, but next time you should try and move back a bit so the camera gets your left hand and bow hand (might help others to see what you're doing more clearly).

Sounds good to me, though!

Re: I'm on YouTube! Advice! Critics come here!

so...have you gotten fatter since you left or what? : P

personally, i liked the first two better. the third video seemed...hmm. smoother in some sense, but not in a good way! >_> it didn't quite have the life to it i felt in the other two. maybe you were just bored with the tune by then...

or maybe i'm just a loser with no ear, but that's how it seemed to me anyway.

p.s. your whistle sounds awesome without the shoulder rest too.

You're definitely right about being bored with the tune by the third round!!

Sounds awesome...really nice quality to your playing. Love your bowing. Thanks for a variation on the B part of the Hunter's House...I always had a problem with how it was taught to me, but I'm gonna do it your way from now on!

Oh good job!

Really Armand, if you only want criticism you'll not get many replies. Wonderful playing.

Nothing to do with the above links, which are great fun and absolutely in the spirit of sharing. I think youtube is great for sharing music.

The thing that slightly p*sses me off is that you get negative comments from people who aren't prepared to put their own stuff up onto YouTube, who basically want free video to consume, and don't understand the whole business of what YouTube is about.

Rant over!

Absolutely. If you've put up, you can comment at will!!!

Seriously, I wrote my comment after enduring some absolutely feck-witted comments from people who probably couldn't breathe and stand up at the same time without overtaxing their brains and falling sideways.

Just seen your clip...I think climbing up to the top of a spire and shooting that amazing video allows you to comment on anything!!
