I think Brid Meaney from Ennis was involved in a project for comhaltas a couple of years ago compiling a list of all All Ireland winners from the first Fleadh to the present.
I'm pretty sure that the senior piano accordion was won three times by John Ferguson and three times by Michael Tennyson of Leeds before they stopped competing solo, but I've no idea which years they won in. If you drop a line to Leeds CCE through their website I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you!
"bodhran bliss" – we discussed Messrs Daly & Creagh’s competing in the All-Ireland duets before on this board. Then you said they came last, but that was in Ennis in 1977, not 1975 which was in Buncrana. Did they really manage to come last twice ?
Also I don’t know about “Sully” winning the banjo in 1975, but I was there when he won it in 1976, again in Buncrana.
I still have a recording of him playing with Joe McKenna, who won the Senior uillean pipes that year.
"Beaumontproject" - I may be able to add some results for 1976,1977, and 1982. I'll get back to you.
According to notes on Paddy Carty's album "Traditional Irish Music":
In 1971 Mick (O'Connor) won the All-England Miscellaneous Competition with his tenor banjo. The All-Ireland that year was cancelled and the competitions held later in 1972. At the Fleadh Nua held in Dublin in 1972, Mick entered the Miscellaneous Instruments Competition and won the All-Ireland.
Getting old. I got married in 1975, so no fleadh. In 1976 when the fleadh was in Buncrana and Sully won, I had moved to Manchester two weeks earlier. In 1977 when Creagh and Daly came last, it was Ennis, when KIERAN HANRAHAN WON THE BANJO, so the stupid site is wrong. It says 1976 Hanrahan and I knew Sully won the year before, so due to tiredness, and overwork didn't think, but it is the site's faulyt. I knew I couldn't be wrong never, ever, and I was thinking I was senile, I WILL SUE THE SITE.
Who started this thread? It's all your fault, referring me to a dodgy list of All Ireland winners. When you consider I only looked at one entry, the records are 100% wrong.
Paddy Hayes won the Concertina in 1987 and I think he won the Button Accordion the same year, not sure about the accordion though, also Cathal Lynch from Omagh Co. Tyrone won the mens singing in English in 2003 or 4.

Re: List of All Ireland Champions
Didn't Paddy Hayes win Button Accordion (although I can't see any vacant slots) and also Concertina? I'm guessing the 70's or '80's?

The list as it stands is wrong on that. Yet another mistake on "Wikipedia", and why I don't trust it.
