Tunes for the G low whistle

Tunes for the G low whistle

Hello everybody,

I'm starting a discussion here because I was rercently offered a low whistle
in G and I'm looking for tunes suited to it.
I have found it very convenient for some tunes in Dminor, such as
"Peacock's feathers"', "Sergent Early's dream", or "Tam Lin" (aka. The Glasgow).
Can somebody indicate to me other tunes that I may try ?

Ideally, the best suited tunes should range from low G to e
(basically, this corresponds to the notes that can be played on the
three lowest strings on the filddle), and shound contain zero or one sharp.

Thanks for your help !
David

Re: Tunes for the G low whistle

What about Bulgarian Red by Charlie MacKerron? It fits on a G whistle quite nicely.

Re: Tunes for the G low whistle

The reels The Green Fields Of Glentown and Farewell To Ireland should sound good on it.

The Tongadale Reel is great on a low G.

Re: Tunes for the G low whistle

I'm astonished by the reactivity on this forum : one day and already 6 answers !
Thanks everybody. I will have some homework for the next weeks...

For "Farewell to Ireland" I guess you mean the one called
"Farewell to Erin" on this site. There is apparently some confusion
between both tunes.

I found out that all tunes you indicated to me are reels.
Does anybody know a jig that would also fit on the low G ?

Thanks again
David
