What are your comments on the susato LOW D-whistle
Hello everybody.
I want to buy a Susato low whistle and I am wondering if someone can send me his experiences with it.
The small D sustato is my favourite and hope the D low will be one as well.
The cost of the low D whistle is 78 american dollar.
Re: What are your comments on the susato LOW D-whistle
I have a big black low D susato that I picked up in Dublin a while ago. Granted some people have nice things to say about them, but personnally I wish I left it in Dublin! Tone is quite loud (which is to be expected with susato), but second octave breaks after a high G, tuning then goes out the window. (I have been told it sounds like a cheap shakohachi here in Japan, not a nice thing to say apparently!), My advice, break the bank and get an Overton instead, or come to Japan and you can have mine for a couple of beers!
Re: What are your comments on the susato LOW D-whistle
I too play a high D susato and need to so that I can cut over our drummer even when going through the PA. I bought a low D Susato and took it back with in a couple of days to the shop very dissapointed. It felt cheap, the spacing was not comfortable, the tone wholes were on the large side and the second octave was way out. Try Cheiftan or Overton or even Phil Hardy Whistles. I know play a PH Kerry Pro tunable low D a bit pricy but worth every note.
Has any one else discovered the Cillian O Brien improved Feadogs? Very good and in tune whistle for around 20 euros.

I play a Susato Dublin Low D. I find that the good points about it is that it works well over 2 whole octaves, and it has a fairly good dynamic range as well.
Re: What are your comments on the susato LOW D-whistle
Tenor Susato's are great for learning on I reckon (easy to play, usually tonally correct) however a low whistle is trickier to make accurately on a repetitive basis using autmoation (from what I have heard).
Peronally, I like Chieftains although if you can wait and pay, an Overton or a Copeland leaves the others standing.
I have an Alba low C which is lovely to play and has the added benefit of being a very efffective weapon in the event of crowd trouble! If the low D is half as good then I would recommend that as well.
